Yes, the function in terms of changing it out is the same as any AR-15 butt stock assembly. Did not like the Ruger one and replaced the one on mine with a MagPul.
Really easy task too, as there is no buffer, or spring involved. Depending on what you want to replace it with, you may need to buy a new buffer tube assembly, which the stock mounts to.
