Springfield XD 45 question...

Hi folks,

Anyone who has a Springfield XD, or can shead some light on it I would appreciate your comments.

Was looking for a Colt New Agent, Commander, etc and this one came up as a possibilty.

I've fired one at the Academy and compaired to the Gen 4 Glock ,both in .40 S&W,I like the Glock better ,but thats just me .It seemed to be a fine gun .I perfer the 1911 platforum in .45 ACP but the Glock is my issue weapon so I don't have a choice there .Springfeild makes a quality product and should serve you well,but just so you know ,when I'm off duty the Kimber .45 is whats riding on my hip .What it really boils down to is a fit thing .I have wide musclar hands with short fingers .I would feel comofortable with ether the X.D. of the Grn 4 Glock as a carry gun ,but given the choice it's the 1911 for me .As a side note both the X.D. and Gen 4 Glock in .45 ACP just feel too big in my hands .My advice would find a local gun shop that will rent you an X.D. and go to a shotin it just to see how it feels to you and go from there .That way you can try several other guns at the same time and not get stuck buying a gun that you find you don't like after 500 rounds .

I had an XD but in 40 cal. I traded it for a Smith and Wessom 4006. I will probably get another XD. You have to get familiar with the trigger but after you do, it is a nice pistol.

I really like my XD in 45. It just fits me very well. Few thousand rounds so far with no issue.

That being said I am with Lou, rent and compare if at all possible.

When I worked private security at an inner city grocery chain, I carried a full size XD in 45acp. I liked the ammo capacity, the grip safety and in a level II Sherpa retention holster I felt it was about as safe a gun to carry as I could have.
Accuracy with Hornady 230gr TAP was excellent and my personal ability to get it out of the holster and hit targets fast and accurate was really good.

I have shot a xd40 that I bought new a few years ago without a single hitch, and very accurate. I selected it for ergonomics as all the buttons were in the right place for me...and, the grip safety...I would recommend the xd but I have not used many of the others...jus' sayin

I have an XD45 that I like a lot. The gun is very accurate and totally reliable, I've had no malfunctions so far.

The only problem is the magazine release system...well, I say problem but I'm still on the fence about it. When the gun was new, I was unable to lock in a full magazine unless the slide was locked to the rear. Once in place the pressure on the magazine was so great as to necessitate the use of both hands to release the magazine(even for my gorilla paws). After a period of break in with the mags loaded with 12 rounds things are working better now. I'm not getting rid of the gun but I want to see how the magazinge lock holds up, the design is weak in my opinion.

I traded a Glock 21 for my XD45. I didn't like the trigger on the Glock or the fat grip. The XD has a thinner grip that fits me without cacrificing mag capacity.
The biggest adjusment for me is both the XDs I have shoot POA for me at 25 yds. The rest of my arsenal I hold at 6 o'clock at the 25yd target.
If I find one at the right price the next XD I get will be a XD9SC

I have no complaints about my XD45 compact. I chose it over Glock and M&P just because of the grip safety. As a side note, I have 2 Colt 1911's, an XD45, and Ruger P90. When I'm in a mood to shoot a .45 I usually grab the P90 first, but I've never had any kind of failure with the XD.

In the semi auto platform, i prefer sigs and 1911s... But i have shot a few xds.. thy are good shooting guns and up thrre with everything else just comes to preference. They dont fit my hand very well, nor do the glocks, but the xds are accurate and fine gun in my experiences.

I've had an XD .45 "Tactical" model for several years now. Traded my last Glock for it. IMHO, it's a better gun and a more refined design than the Glock. It's more comfortable, has more steel and less plastic, a better grip angle and the same magazine capacity. It's my truck gun, for all other semi-auto purposes, I prefer a 1911.

I have a 4" service model, and a 5" tactical XD in 45acp I like the grip angle it fits me better than other polymer pistols, 4"service model has a couple thousand rounds thru it with no problems the 5"tactical is a new acquisition with only a few hundred rounds thru it but I don't expect any trouble with it. Both are way more accurate than I . As others have said its boils down to personal preference don't think you'll go wrong with a XD. Peck

I own both a XD45 and a XD40 I do not like the trigger on the XD45 as much as the 40 but I just need to do the work. It has way to much “play” travel for me. The guns run great, no problems and they don’t have a manual safety. The do have a grip safety and a trigger safety, but it’s a pick up and shoot gun. I do understand the XDM’s are better then the XD but mine are both about 3-4 years old. I like he XD because it similar to the glock, but doesn’t have that funky grip angle. And it’s not a glock.:)

My use is very small for a 45 auto. I'm not an auto fan to start with, so it wouldn't be carriied, wouldn't get shot much and would just be a "round the home" thing. I was looking for a Colt mostly out of habit after having had a lot of Colt's that all were very serviceable and reliable no matter what configuration they were, including all their auto's I've had. I'm also not a "black plastic gun" fan, so this one would be a reach for me just like my Glocks were when I had them. This one would be a trade rather than a purchase... the only reason I am even considering it.

I have had 2 of them and liked them, they fit the hand way better than most double stack high capacity pistols. I prefer a manual safety (which they now have available on both the Service and Tactical in the 45s) the only thing I didn't like was the grip safety which unless fully depressed won't allow slide manipulation. (a grip sleeve would cure this issue)

currently own xd40 service,ive had it for about a year.the only problem ive had is it dont like fiocchi,dont know if the spelling is right!ammo.everything else runs great through it.
