My brother spotted this "Ruger" lic. plate in Brevard, NC this afternoon. I'm sure someone here knows who it belongs to. :D

Very Cool!

I've not seen it,, and I'm not far from Brevard. But,,, if I want to be a bit sneaky,,, I might could get a cop to "run it" & see what comes back.
Great plate & I'll be on the lookout!

It is a violation of the law to do as you are suggesting.

Why would a person even consider doing that ? what would one do with that info after receiving it ?? That could be my daughters car, someone being sneaky would then have her name & address ...........Highly-Highly illegal even for Cops to do that for no legal reason. Even posting a picture of that Tag on the net without the owners permission may be illegal in certain states.

I'm familiar with Ca. regulations and using DMV files for non - official business is against the rules.
Taking a photo when the vehicle is in a public place, and this was, is not illegal. And, by the way, I did not say where, other than the City and State.
Let's not turn this into something it's not. This is just a fun thing for our mutual enjoyment.
It's probably a fellow Ruger revolver enthusiast. They are one of us and I, for one, think it's a cool statement.
"Contender" lives in the area and, in fact, I've met up with him in Brevard in the past. I thought he might know the owner since he knows so many 'Ruger' folks in Western N.C. :D
"Contender" is an ethical guy and might ask around but not beyond what is proper.

Chill out guys.
The big little word,,,, IF,,,, was used because I'm NOT going to do anything. And yes,,, I know a lot of cops,,, and likely know one who would run it,,, if I asked. (Many owe me favors,) but I did NOT say I was going to do it.
I too thought it was a cool plate. I did say that I'd be on the lookout,,, and if I were to spot it,,, I'd try & POLITELY meet the owner. Who knows,,, they might be glad to know of our Forum here!

So,,, calm down,,, put away the rope,,, and know that I'm NOT going to ask any cops to run them.

Oh,, and know this,,, here locally, the cops have a machine,,, out on patrol that scans & searches license plates to the tune of up to 3000 an hour if necessary. It's used to find & catch illegal plates, expired plates, and any other things that might come up. So,,, they are constantly looking at many different license plates anyway.

... *sigh* ...

Some folks are really way too serious about good natured talk on an internet forum.
Yeah, like contender was serious ..... please.

Where that tag on MY daughters car and some pervert knew her name and address he/she should take it as a warning NOT to mess with her. She probably would have a reason for the 357. :D :D

And some people need to learn when to make a joke and when not to. I hate that LEOs have so much power that if they are not scrupulous in thier duty, they can wreak havoc in people's lives, but to even suggest that you know a LEO who would violate law on a public forum is juvenile at one end of the spectrum and foolish at the other end. To defend such behavoir, even in jest is wrong. We have enough trouble with the public's image of gun owners, we do not need to give them any more ammo to hurt us. TD

Ahhh.....the anti law enforcement / jealous of authority group arrives.

Well this thread took an odd turn, I clicked on it thinking the owner of the plate may have been a forum member, or at least had been identified, but instead I find a tongue in cheek comment by contender got blown way out of proportion. I do quite a bit of buying an selling in the motorcycle world so I'm on Craigslist and one chopper forum a lot and I will never figure out the great lengths people go to so that their license plate is hidden.

We've had Ruger license plates here in Iowa for the better part of 30 years, RUGER1 up through RUGER4 at one point. Then a license plate turned up in the same town with "RUGGER" on it. Pretty close, but turned out to be a carpet installer.

Kinda funny how laws work, I guess. It's $5 to have a plate or DL ran in KS, last I checked.

Someones Short's are in a knot, please relax take a deep breath and have another cup of coffee I'll buy.

I'm glad to see most of y'all understood I was being sarcastic. And in the back of my mind,,, I had HOPED that if the owner of this tag was a lurker or even a member here,,, he'd chime in. The owner of that tag is obviously a fan of our beloved Rugers, and if he was here,,, I'd QUICKLY offer an invite to my Gathering, no matter if he was a member here or not!

My truck plates for years have been "14 MINI". Illinois requires the numbers precede letters on trucks. Since I sold all 5 of my mini's and started shooting AR's, may have to think of a new plate. It will be something dealing with Ruger's, either in 17, 22, or 4570 persuasion.

I spotted one in Utah last week that said, Hillary 1898, I think it was in honor of her 50th wedding anniversary....but I didn't run it!

I didn't know Hitlary was a Mormon!

Oh wait,,, she says she's from one state but moves & runs office in another state. Maybe she's trying to get the Mormon vote. My mistake!
