At the advice of a gun friend I bought a Super Safety for for an AR-15 from Fudd Arms.... Palmetto State Armory had an AR lower on sale and I went and picked one up just to have this on.... (Only took about 45 minutes to do the 4473 but that is a different story). So I put this on the PSA lower and could not get the trigger to trip on either of my AR uppers... still don't know why... So I decided to just take it off the PSA lower and put the original factory safety and trigger back on... I did this and it will work on either of the uppers in it's original condition... then I figured what the heck, might as well try the Super Safety on one of the other lowers... decided on my first AR a DPMS I got almost 20 years ago... it acts like it is gonna work... will find out next weekend... but talk about a pain to deal with.... I know these things are supposed to be easy to take down and work on but it seems at 68 years old I have become clumsy and can't see worth a dern.... 2 hours at least of absolute tedium... and cussing like a drunk sailor at times....

I don't get the 4473 thing folks say is so difficult. In just the past two weeks I've bought four firearms. Three were in a LGS that uses laptops. In and out within 10 minutes. One purchase was in a LGS that is still using the old ink and paper. In fact not just the 4473 it was a handgun so the SP form also needed to be filled out (sort of a mini 4473). In and out within 15 min and that included buying two 1000rd cases of ammo. It just seems so simple, yet I often see folks having a difficult time with it.

As for the Super Safety, they claim it's a "drop in-no modding needed". I have found that parts even when advertised as "drop in" rarely drop in without some level of fitting. The only trigger drop ins I've used that were truly drop in were the enclosed trigger groups. I've used CMC, Timney and Rise Armament with no issues.

But I can certainly relate to the cursing and frustration when installing small parts these days. Not long ago I made a thread about the difficulty I had installing a trigger upgrade in a MKIV 22/45 Tactical. Had to put it down and come back to it the next day. A it went in like a hot knife through butter.

I can most certainly relate to the drunken sailor thing....I've been one since October of 1983.

I'm in and out in 15 minutes also at my normal FFL's.... but PSA's system is way too burdensome.... after you fight your way through their computerized 4473 with help from a young guy, yes, I'm sure if I did it a couple more times it would be quicker... then as I posted in another thread they give you one of those disc like you get at a restaurant that flashes when your table is ready and you walk around the store waiting... I asked what the wait was and they said the folks in the back have to print out the form......

And Yep those Ruger MKs are a real challenge to deal with...

Blume, what exactly is so burdensome at PSA and what exactly do you need help with from the young guy? I have only purchased from PSA online (a ton) and only receive/pick up their transfer to my LGS of choice.. Does PSA have a different way? I give my license to the counter employee, they direct me to a open computer, I fill out the 4473, hit submit, go back to counter and pay, and walk out. A few times all three laptops were taken but it's only a couple minutes wait as most folks are pretty quick completing it. I'm guessing PSA has only one laptop, or they are just that busy all laptops available are taken and you wait in line?

I think it was mostly me... I actually had the hammer installed backwards in one of the lowers for a while and took me looking at another one to figure it out....

GasGuzzler... as for your 'religion' I totally agree with you but I compromise .... my saving grace is here in SC there is no background check call in if you have a concealed weapons permit... which I have had for over 20 years now.....

Oh, and it's against my 'religion' to eat chicken.... figure that one out.

I'm really looking forward to getting up to Contender's on Saturday to see how this new 'Super Safety' actually works.... which as far as I can tell is not nearly as 'Safe' as the standard flip up and down one. These are a push in and out with three positions... full left is safe, full right is fire semi-auto and middle is kind of like bump fire.

Looking at both the video I attached as well as the one from Kentucky Yeti... you would think folks would know how to stand and hold an AR when firing something close to full auto? We are not talking about a rifle with any real recoil... heck if they were shooting anything even, a 308, it would be flat more knocking them down on their butts!

Concealed permit or license is also sacrilegious at my house. Licenses and permits are no reflection of the licensee and are merely a profit center for the issuer. We have open carry and a Constitution but that's for another topic I won't visit or comment in. :LOL:

There can be some slight differences amongst AR lowers and/or fitment conflicts between upper and lowers that may cause cussing and head scratching. I'm an 'Eighty Percenter' so I see this more than those using OTC lowers.
As for the 'forced reset' type trigger mechanisms, I fall back to comment Dad made almost 60 years ago: "If I needed one of those (meaning a full auto), I'd just take one from someone who didn't need theirs anymore." ;)

I've always marveled at the so called "drop in" parts for many different guns. A FEW have done just that,, and then most others,, require a "little adjustment or fitting."

But I also understand the frustration behind working on something,, and it not doing as you feel it should. I often walk away,, & come back later with a different mindset,, and it often goes much easier.

We'll see how it does next weekend!

BTW; I have a fun stage for us to "play" with from my match yesterday!

Absolutely nothing wrong with the original safety on any of them.... I put this on just out of a whim to see how much .223 Ammo I could waste..... I was hoping to just put it on the PSA lower and if it functioned like the one in the videos then just leave that lower stuck away for a rainy day.... seems it does not like the PSA lower... but then it could be me. I suspect I'll break down in the next month and get an upper for it.... I looked at them when I was picking the lower up... those are a little pricy.... just what I need another AR.

Contender.... As you know I really like the stages you have set up... I hope we can get some folks to participate in them.... I was actually thinking of maybe having an un-official friendly competition and having a prize at the end. I'm bringing the book, The First 30 Seconds" with me and trying to figure out how to gift it to someone there.

At my match the other day,, a few shooters thought I had copied a stage from the recent NC State match. Apparently someone else designed a stage almost identical to the one I built. I thought it was funny!

The first time I fired a full automatic (M16) it was exciting and the cool factor was over the limit. Then when being qualed on the M60 it was even better (except for runaway gun/hot barrel change drills). I had very limited experience on the M14 full auto, as there were not that many available. But the opportunity scratched an itch of curiosity. Same for the few opportunities to fire the MP5, AK47 and UZI full auto. All cool stuff. But as I've mentioned in threads before my Division "acquired" a lot, and I man a lot of rounds at the end of each fiscal year from other commands. Crate loads of it. Shoot it or lose it... so it was given to us to expend so they could write it off. The majority was 5.56....those 1960's era M16's got a work out many times over. In fact, once the fun factor wore off, and it did...it seemed like more of a mindless chore firing full auto into a berm or turning telephone poles into splinters. The only time after that command I was excited again was being qualed on a M2 50 Cal when assigned to ships company/Weapons Dept. A 50 cal mount on a sponson was the best GQ/BS assignment I ever had.

Having the chance to run drills/fire various & unique weapons full auto was fun but I'm glad it was all paid for by Uncle Sam. I have no urge or need to own a Class III anything, or a bump stock or the various trigger rigs to simulate automatic fire. Nor would I want to spend the money it costs to feed them.

About 12 years ago on a trip to Vegas the Wife and I went to The Gun Store. I always liked the Tommy gun and never had a chance to fire one in full auto. Three magazines was $120.....pricey itch to scratch. But that itch was cured.

My youngest will be detaching from his current command in a few weeks and attending his "A" School. After that he will attend ECS (Expeditionary Combat Skills) and he's chomping at the bit to jump on the automatic weapons. I don't want to downplay his excitement. But I'm sure by the end of ECS he will no longer have the same excitement. I am jealous of one thing though......he will get to qual on a M19....I never did.....now getting a opportunity to fire that at Uncle Sam's expense would get my juices flowing a bit.

XUSNORDIE, your story reminds me of a goodly number of years ago at the 'shoot' we do down near Prosperity S.C. every year. A Guy from Florida brings up his full auto weapons, one of which is a German Belt Fed. Folks were having fun with various ones and I was talking to our host Herb who owns the land and we saw a car pull up and an old guy get out. As he walked up our host said he was a neighbor and had been a tail gunner in a bomber over Europe during WWII and had done all 25 missions... Old dude walks up and my buddy Herb introduces him to me and them ask if he wants to shoot one of the machine guns... I still remember the easy shake of the man's head and the look in his eyes as he said no. Then my buddy Herb started to try and talk him into shooting the belt fed and I had to reach over and put my hand on Herb's arm and politely say to him that he did not want to. I could see in that man's eyes that he had absolutely no desire to shoot a machine gun ever again. I am proud to say I got to shake that man's hand.

Seriously, we're the same age. The pain is real.
I really did have a brain scan yesterday, AND the only thing they found was an aging brain.
My IQ has gone from 145 to "I have only 2 active brain cells, and they aren't talking to each other."

We know how to make things work as they should, it just starts taking a little longer as we get older. Keeping our hands busy, solving puzzles, keeping our minds challenged, and busy, helps keep the old man away.

Knob Creek was a hoot till it got so doggone crowded. I saw so many variances & got to shoot a few of them too. A good covered outdoor gun show a well.
I went about 5 times from the mid 90's to the late 2008 or so. By then the show was so much bigger with Hueys circling & all but the crowds became too much for me. A hell of a show!!!
