Cleaded up real nice. Put A wolf trigger spring in while it was apart. Question: In all time I have been looking for one of these, I had never seen one with a 3" barrel. Any info will help ser#162-2XXXX. Thanks the New Guy. Not to Ruger just here.

Serial # tells me it was made in 1987, the next to last year of the Six's production.
Barrel length should actually be 2.74" 70mm, a standard factory size.
Grips are factory, made for Ruger by Siles I believe.
That's all I can tell ya.
One of the others here might be able to tell ya more, a call to Ruger might get ya the actual shipping date, model number etc.
Looks real nice, congrats.
Sal

PS, What did ya have to pay for it?

There are a few factory 3" barrel Speed Sixes out there. They are the least common barrel length. Congratulations!

Best Regards,

What you have is a Postal Inspector's revolver. Ruger made a short run of these for the USPS.
Someone here can probably give you the actual production numbers.

A call to Ruger Records with the Ser. no. should tell you the model number. Should be a GS-83P if it is 38spl or a GS-33P if it is 357. ('P' = factory rubber grips).
If they say that it's a GS-33PS, then it's one of the Postal Service models.
Uncommon with the true 3" barrel. I can tell it's the 3" by the ejector rod housing. Just looks different. :D

Put a call into Ruger records and had to leave a message. Shocked the heck out of me they called back within an hour. The nice lady on the phone said that the sel# I have is a USPS model and that was the way it left the factory. She did not give of a model number, that should have been something I should have ask while I had her on the phone.

I'm sure the guy on gun broker would have liked to have had this info. for me!

Score! :D
They are a bit hard to find.
There is a special manual that goes with those - has "Postal Service" on it.
Otherwise it's the same as any speed six except for the true 3" barrel.

Very nice, thanks for sharing. I have a set of those grips NIB I am hoarding. I could put them on my Speed Six but it would still be only a 2 3/4" gun.

Mountain William- I apparently have one also. Measures 3" from the cylinder face and in the same serial# range ( 162-20xxx). I bought this gun from a forum member in California about 3-4 years ago. Never knew about the USPS connection. Mine's in .357Mag. and I've been using it as a carry gun for the last couple of years. Damn fine piece, in my opinion. Hank in Va,
