Bought a very nice Speed Six in the Classifieds and looked up the SN on Ruger's site. They don't list the Speed Six with a 157 prefix. Very interesting.
Looking for the correct box for this snubby Speed Six. I presume the yellow and black box is correct, but what LENGTH box is proper? THANKS Gents. H

The yellow and black box is the one you need. They are the same size for the 2 3/4, 4, and 6 inch. The serial numbers and dates listed are for speed, service and security sixes. It was made in '81.

I too found the link to the S/N chart on the Ruger site but, since 157 isn't listed, we must assume (!) that since its between 156 and 158 prefixes, it was built in 1981. My point was that I find it curious that Ruger doesn't list the 157 prefix, yet, here's one in my hands.... H

The Ruger chart only shows the first serial number for each year.

156-94383 was the first # for 1981
158-12020 was the first # for 1982

So, why would they show the 157 prefix number if a 157 numbered gun was not the first number for a certain year? That makes the 157 a 1981 gun.
No assumptions.
