I have no idea how it started. We intentionally didn't get a home phone, we use our cell phones. Some days I get 1-2 Spam calls, other days up to 4. Doesn't sound like a lot, but I don't get a lot of calls in general so to me it's a lot. Is anyone else bothered with that? I hate to change numbers, because it takes forever to get the number to everyone, plus all the changes for my part time real estate work.

I get a few every week. I just add them to my block list. Pretty soon my block list will outnumber my contacts.

If I don't know the number I don't answer, if it's important they will leave a message that I can respond back to.
We don't have a home phone either, and I'm getting a Iot of spam calls. The weird thing is my phone doesn't ring for them, but will show up in the "recent calls" so I block them and then get other calls.
Then the really weird thing is some of the blocked numbers show up as outgoing calls for minutes at a time. Lots of Phoenix area numbers. I am definitely NOT accidentally dialing them either.

I get the calls daily on home and cell and work phones, often the same pitch on each.
The sales pitch will sound like an American and the call is passed to an off shore group.

Every time I've changed cell phone numbers it takes months before I stop getting calls intended for the last Hispanic who had that number!

Get a few a day. We still have a home phone but we get a few on the cells each week. At least, with an iPhone, it's easy to block the numbers. I'm pretty sure that these calls are random computer calls so it won't matter if you change your number.

I handle these calls differently. I always answer and when I have determined it is a sales call, I hang up. By answering, my phone logs the call in my "Recent Calls" list.
I then create a contact with that number and name it "Spam xx". "xx" being the next number in line. I think I am up to Spam 37 or so now.
When the same number is used again, and it is frequently, I immediately know it is a bullsh-t call.
The dialog I give when they call back goes something like this....
In a stern, no nonsense voice:
"WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY?"
caller usually asks something and mispronounces my name.
"THIS IS AN EMERGENCY NUMBER ONLY! WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY?"
caller once again asks for me
"WHAT IS YOUR PHYSICAL LOCATION?"
That usually ends the conversation.

I've never understood why folks get rid of their home phones. We have one, with an answering machine to record calls while we're out. We can only make local and toll free calls on our home phone. Nita and I have a cell phone each which we use to make long distance calls and emergency calls. We don't give out our cell phone numbers to anyone.
We pay $100 per year each for our cell phones, and that accumulates from one year to the next up to $500. We don't turn on our cell phones except to make calls.

Just for the heck of it, I checked the Do Not Call registry. All of our land and cell numbers are listed. I'm going to start reporting the calls. It's a pretty simple procedure. I figure the reason the list doesn't work is that very few folks report anything. So, if we want the list to work, we have to be willing to do our part.

I did find out you can report texts to you cell phone as well and any "robo" calls (recorded messages). You don't even need to be on the list to report robo calls.

Pat I like that. I did something a little different. I answered and it was a woman and she started her speel immediately. I said, "What are you wearing?" she said, "what?" I said, "What are you wearing?" She said, "You cant ask me that?" I said, "I didn't call you, you called me". She hung up on me. Felt weird doing that. Haven't done it again. But it worked and I doubt she'll call back.

I was wondering about what Jeepnik said about cloning phone numbers. I called AT&T. I use them and have an Apple 6 phone. They didn't really give me a clear answer about cloning my phone number, or if someone else might be using my number. They didn't say it was impossible at the same time. So it might be... he said it might possibly be a "programming error." Whatever... (my phone making outgoing calls to blocked numbers.)
But, they did point me in the direction of an AT&T app called "AT&T Call Protect" I just downloaded it and will give it a try for a while.
Oh, by the way, they also said blocking numbers on your phone doesn't stop someone from calling your phone. It just won't ring, and the blocked number will still show up in the call log. He called it a "soft block."
