SP101 trigger guard replacement?

Short and simple: a guy I know has an SP101 that has had the trigger guard chopped off rough and has had the hammer bobbed roughly also. He wants to sell it, and I could probably get it from him pretty cheap. But I don't really like the above mentioned modifications.

I'm sure I could buy a standard or factory spurless hammer easily enough, but what about the trigger guard? I've never worked on an SP101, is it simple to replace the trigger guard? Does Ruger sell it on it's own or do they sell the trigger assembly as a whole?

I really doubt Ruger would sell you a trigger guard by itself. More than likely you would need to send it back to the factory.

Trigger groups are showing up on GB and ebay from cut up confiscated guns. Also all the other parts like hammers and barrels.

Hmm, I guess I'll call Ruger. If I sent the gun to them, would they just restore it to factory condition?

EDIT: Just did a search on ebay and gunbroker, couldn't find anything but grips and holsters on ebay and gunbroker came up with nothing helpful in parts. Do you happen to have a link?

I took a look and there are none listed at this time. I think you just missed one that was there last week. May or may not ever see one again. Tried Numrich and they say "Factory fitted" You may have to send the gun to Ruger.

Pretty sure that one he missed last week was the hammer strut and mainspring, not a hammer. I have bene looking for a hammer take-off for a while on GB as well.

I have been looking all over the internet and the only thing that is consistent is that Ruger won't sell you a hammer, you have to send it in. And they won't send you back your old one either. So, perhaps, if you decide to send in the gun for a new trigger guard, you could take out the old hammer (in case you want to keep the bobbed for whatever reason) before sending it in.

Have your local gun dealer send the gun back to Ruger. They will return the gun to factory specs at reasonable cost. If you send it yourself it will cost much more in postage. :shock: :shock:

I think I would turn the other way and run from that bubba gun. No telling what else is dorfed up. :roll:

Trigger housing is factory fitted so if ya got 1 that was too big fitting is simple where as too small not good !

Ruger should be able to give a ball park figure though , but as mentioned what else ???
