SP101 question

For those of you who own an SP I have noticed that with the cylinder open, if I hold the end of the ejector rod with my fingers, I can spin the cylinder without the rod turning. I cannot do this with any other revolver. I have owned this gun for 10 years, and never really noticed this before. Is this normal? Other than what I have described the gun shoots great and functions fine.

Because of the Ruger front latch design the ejector rod is not part of the cylinder, it's part of the crane assembly and thus, does not rotate.

This is the same reason the ejector rod wobbles a little. Its a different design than most revolvers.

The GP-100 also uses Ruger's design and the ejector rod does not rotate with the cylinder. I don't know about the Redhawk or Super Redhawk but I expect they also follow suit.
