SP101 question?... Help! (Pic's added)

Got a set of Uncle Mike's Boot-Grips a while back for my SP101 that was in lay-a-way... went to put them on today and they wouldn't cover all of the gap on the (Left) loading side of the gun frame.

So'... either Ruger changed the frame cut-out, or a forum member sold me a defective set of grips... what say you? :?

Double actions don't have loading gates so I assume you mean the right hand side with the muzzle facing away from the shooter? Rubber grips from Uncle Mikes aren't as good as Pachmayrs and neither is as good as the original Ruger rubber grips. It's not a case of Ruger changing the gun frame or the grips being defective. It's simply moulded rubber which contracts when it cools and the cheaper the grip, the cheaper the material used in manufacturing the grips. I have a set of Uncle Mikes for a Security Six and they fit like a size 12 shoe would fit an infant. It's just the nature of the beast. Check out Badger boot grips. They're much more expensive but well worth it.

Knuckles, settle down for a moment son. Not sure what happened, and I hope it is resolved. Sounds like somebody screwed up. Let them know what happened. I'm sure it will work out.

I have a 2-1/4" SP-101 which has Trausch grips, and I'm looking forward to a 3-1/16" SP. I'll be putting Trausch grips there as well.

This was a pic' of the last set I owned... they fit and performed perfectly!

I chose them after trying many brands and loved them. Now on this latest set of grips I have... the left grip is shorter than the right grip... I mean this really sucks eggs!!

Can you post up a picture with the grips on the gun showing the gap and of the gun without the grips on?

P.S. I sold a set of UM Boot grips a while back...was I who you got them from? I don't remember. If I was I can refund your money. I wouldn't mind having a set again. The set I had fit my gun great.

I have the Uncle Mike's Boot Grips on one of my SP101's and in my opinion they are the best thing going for the SP. Too bad they were discontinued.

I might end up just giving them away... but I will first check these on my old SP101 that I sold to my friend... if they fit that gun, then I'll sell them with a serial # range so nobody else will get stung.

My new Sp101 DAO is NOT the same as my older one, for instance on my first SP101 the bobbed-hammer would set slightly raised from the frame while the hammer on this new SP101 DAO is flush with the frame... it makes me wonder if the frame Too! has been changed by Ruger. :?

I don't know... I figure something out... if not it'll make for a good karma. :roll:

Comparing your photo to my SP, it looks like your frame cut out comes closer to the hammer pin.

Looks like the flange around the top of the grip is trimmed too close. Seems like it should be equal all the way around. I worked in a rubber and plastics factory for a while, many years ago, and the flashing on many products had to be trimmed off and that is probably how it got trimmed too close. :shock:

Mine definitely looks different than yours. The indent on your SP101 goes higher. Can anyone else post some pictures to compare from?

yes, from selling grips over the past few years we tooo have "seen" variations in the grip 'frame from model to model, casting difference in the production...also we have seen the rubber grips NOT "trimmed" at times either, thats why many times one has to "final fit" to get them 'flush" n9o big thing, been doing it for years for customers........I alwasy tell them to "bring in the gun, so we can try them out...." then make any final decision........ove the yeas ,with out "trying" thenm on for size, would get MANY "comebacks" find out they didn't even know what they had themselves ,mainly when it came to 'single action' models...NOW add in the 2005 ands later frames, YIKES................nightmare as to what grips any shop would have to "keep in stock" ( on hand...)

I didn't have this issue with my first DAO SP101... the hammers are not fit the same either...

... the older models had a tiny bit of hammer showing above the frame, this new one I just got has the hammer completely smoothed and ground a tiny bit below the frame.

I'm thinking the frame was switched when Ruger made the .327mags' :?
