SP101- my third Ruger

Picked up an SP today. Went last week to my local purveyor of fine firearms and fondled the LCR, SP (spurless), and the new S&W .38 Bodyguard. I liked the LCR well enough, but really hated the Bodyguard they had. Nothing about it appealed to me: the controls for the laser are impossible to activate without a magician's dexterity and the "ambidextrous" cylinder latch was a good idea but just poorly executed. Also the lockup was loose.

I had initially wanted a 2.25" .357 with the hammer spur, but they only had a spurless one. A bunch of reading the last few days convinced me that spurless was really the way to go for ccw. So I went there today intending to trade my LCP (maybe 100 rounds total) in for the SP. It was gone, but they did have a spurred one that arrived this morning, which is now sitting on my hip.

. I took it straight to the range with a box of 158gr .357 SJFP. Recoil to me was maybe just a bit harsher than the LCP. By the end of the box of 50, I was kinda glad I hadn't bought two boxes. I need to work on trigger control and holding a good sight picture but I'm happy with the initial outing. .38s should be cake. Cleaned it up good and now I'm just wearing it around the homestead to get used to it.

Couldn't find a hammer for my 'Spurless" so just bought another SP (one with a hammer). I definitely have gotten a big love affair going with SPs

SPs in 357 in the 2.25" variety are the cat's meow. I have two spurless with Meprolight night sights and they are great. Love the Meprolight sights.

Yeah, it's certainly going to be a fun challenge to build my skill level with it. She is awfully pretty for sure, and very comfortable to snuggle up with.

I might have a smith bob the hammer, leaving just enough to pull back at the range, but not enough to snag on anything, sort of like a Commander model 1911. But I'll keep it as is for a good while before I start mucking with it.

Oh, I ended up keeping the LCP. They only offered me $150 in trade. I'm pretty sure I can do better than that in a private sale. I like it okay, but when I carry it in my Nemesis in my left pocket, I somehow manage half the time to hit the mag release button. .380 is not the greatest round to start with, but pulling it out and having the mag drop out, leaving me with only one immediately available isn't too optimal.
