Getting a SP101 with a 4" barrel for wifey. I would like a nice leather holster for the gun. The gun will rest around nite-stand(no kids)....She will shoot it, I will, but main "resting" area will be at headboard, at the ready. Looked at Simplyrugged, no go. Ideas?? Thanks

Well I was going to suggest simply rugged. I've got one for my 3 inch sp101, but then I finished your post.

I don't care which holster you get but why not simply rugged?

I chose Simply Rugged for my SP101, 4" and love it. But, I don't keep my revolver in it, only when I carry it.

On my nightstand I keep it in a gun rug, partially unzipped.

You may wish to reconsider the barrel length, especially since the gun is for your wife. The SP is - my opinion - perfectly balanced with a 3" barrel. Don't know why they released the SP in 4". Drawing a 4" will also be more difficult due to barrel length and will also add weight to the gun. 4" models are relatively new and a good holster is hard to find.

Two reasons:

1. The 4.2" barrel meets Canadian requirements for a 105 mm minimum barrel length.
2. They FINALLY gave it decent fully adjutable sights.

This was recently added to the shopruger website. It is OWB

For a night stand gun I'd want a six shot revolver like a gp100. The sp101 is for concealed carry with the 5shot capacity.

I have a simply rugged for a 4" SP101 in the classifieds if you are interested. I liked it but it interfered with my hunting pack, so I switched to a generic Uncle Mikes that sat lower on my hip.

Someone has pointed out that Ruger has a very nice one from Triple-K, and I won't fault Triple-K; I have a few of their holsters. I use a Bianchi 3910 holster for my 3-1/16" SP-101 .357, and really like it. I also have the one made by Triple-K, but it is just not as robust.

My 3-1/16" SP-101 resides in an unsnapped Bianchi 3910 in my nightstand. For home use it holds five 125 grain .38 Spl +P. If I need more, well I am ready to meet my maker.

I actually have a Simplyrugged for my crossdraw(SBH 5.5in.). I like the idea of a generic Uncle Mike's, or a gun rug. Do not have plans for it to be a CCP gun. Prefer the 4" barrel for adjustable sights
