I recently picked up a used SP101 that seems to be in good shape. When I was immortal in High School I shattered my right wrist in a dirt bike accident. All that to explain that I’d like to reduce the recoil before I decide whether to load up on .357, .38+P or .38 Spcl. I tried a Hogue rubber grip that wouldn’t fit. The pin that goes through the grip frame is apparently a touch bigger than the factory pin and it would not slip into the hole in the grip frame. I like the grips besides the fact that I apparently can’t use them. Any thoughts? TIA

Where did you get the Hogue? I have a new SP101 and a Hogue on it. It came new from Midway. Depending on where/when/how you got the Hogue it may have come with the wrong pin. Good luck sorting it.

I read some time ago that Ruger changed some dimension on the S101 revolver that affected grip fit. I tried the wood, nylon and rubber Hogue grips on my older SP101. They all fit properly, but the rubber Hogues are the ones that made recoil easier on my wrist. The Hogues REALLY help on the much lighter LCRx too..

I have the Pachmayr Diamond Pro on my SP101 .357 mag. And I find them quite hard. When shooting full power 158 grain loads they slap my hand quite hard and that limits my shooting. When shooting lighter bullets and 38’s no problem. these days it’s just a range toy and a safe queen, the grips look good but the jury is still out.

Interesting to find this. I have an SP101 and the Hogue grip. I was considering ordering the Pachmayr as it looked a little larger and I wish the Hogue was larger. But if it is harder it isn't what I need. I wish there was a grip like the LCRx tamer grip for the SP101.

It would be nice to be able to find a grip, like the Houge, with softer section at the thumb web to help absorb some of the .357 recoil.
About 6 months ago I shot my 629 with hot Buffalo Bore magnums and on the 2nd or 3rd shot it walloped me between the thumb and index and it stopped me shooting that day and those months later I still have a lump there. I assume at this point it’s scarring and won’t be going away.
Anyway a couple months ago I got the Hogue tamer grip and back to the range, gritted my teen and squeezed, I felt it but no pain at all and no further damage. I shot two cylinders I think. It was now a tamed beast. Maybe just different physical hand structures, different handgun, different design of grip? I don’t know but maybe give it a try. I was hesitant to think it would work but happily surprised.

I use the Hogue Tamer grips on two S&W .357s and a Ruger 10MM revolver. I prefer other grips, but the recoil from the more energetic .357 and 10mm loads made shooting these revolvers not so much fun. So the Tamer grip it is. Much as I'd like to, in my old age I no longer shoot handguns in .41 and .44 Mag and .454.

And IF they ever start making Tamers for the SP101, I am a buyer...

I wasn't a huge fan of the Hogue tamers. I kept snapping the white plastic inner shell of the rubber ones and the back strap is sufficiently narrow that the nylon ones became uncomfortable.

My preference ended up being the factory lett grips and the pachmayr compact.

You're about 10 years late to bring up trausch grips. I had the last known supply and sold every one of them to another member here one at a time. I have now none. I wish I'd asked his widow about his mold now, but she didn't take much interest in his business upon his passing.

I've been wondering about the Pachmayr Compact. I'm thinking about putting it on a Lipsey's .327 SP101. I wonder how much the grip angle changes? Does it tend to point differently than the stock grip?

I wish the LCRx grip would fit. I'd like to try that. Or Hogue could make the same Tamer grip for the SP101.

I didn't notice much difference in barrel angle. It's long enough for all my fingers and the back strap is wider. I was listening to Grant Cunningham and he said he was a fan so I tried it and liked it.

I've heard some complain that it interferes with speed loaders. It looks like a solid choice but I wouldn't want it to limit reloading options.

Look at Trausch grips. I have one on my SP101 and it feels great..
I have one on my .357 SP, love it. No problems with speedloaders.
I had Gemini cut the cylinder for moon clips, and I added their gold dot sight.
Great package for edc...
