SP101 Front sight Coloring

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on making the front sight on my SP a bit easier to see?
Went shooting today and it seems my eyes are not as they were in the past and had a hard time picking up the front sight.

Noticed there are products specifically made for this but has anyone tried them?
I was just thinking of a bright nail polish. Easy to remove and I can play with colors until I find the one I like best.

So, what do you use if anything to help pick out that front sight?

Hobby Lobby carries Testor's model paint.It is inexpensive and work great. I prefer top of sight in bright orange and lower end nearest me white. The contrast helps pickup sight easier and faster. Toothpicks work great to apply paint.
Have not tried nail polish but heard it works very well.

Yep, nail polish works good. I use it on several guns. Most folks seem to prefer the 'orange' color but myself, I like 'Sweet Wine'. 8) 8)

I've used the hobby paint but put a coat of white and then the orange on top of that. Clean the sight real good and scuff up first.

I've tried paint, but don't like it, preferring a coat of lampblack or plain old soot from a flame on the front sight in the daylight. Even "flat black" isn't the same. Of course, that's not a permanent deal, just works for me at the range when it's bright out... :wink:

Yep,same way I do it but I leave a little white on back or bottom of site for contrast.

I am color blind.
My color blindness has caused me to miss a few jobs.
The color that catches my eye first is YELLOW..
You need to find out if a color is dominant to your eye and
paint the sight that color.

I'm wondering if there is something you all would suggest for the rear sight notch. not much room there to paint.

The rear sight notch can be painted flat black or a contrasting color. I had an SP-101 that the gunsmith used bright orange on the front sight and a lime green on the rear notch. Sort of reminded me of a pumpkin. As an alternative for $$$ Bowen has a white front sight blade that is raised he uses with either his white outline fixed rear sight or an adjustable:

The suggestion about color blindness and a color one can pickup has merit. Also, red is supposedly the hardest color to see and one must consider the background against which they will be shooting.

I just leave the back plain stainless and steal some of the wife's white fingernail polish for the front.

Meprolight night sight. Works great even in the day plus added benefit at night.

For doing it cheaply, I took a small piece of red reflective tape ($1.99 at Walmart automotive) and pasted a thin strip in the middle of the front sight. You can make it yellow or orange, whatever color you prefer.

I use the testors paint and apply with toothpick. I clean sight with rubbing alcahol first and let it dry completely. My painted sights usually last several years before needing redoing. Then take a brass bristled brush and the old comes right off. Then redo and let dry overnight then you are good to go again.

Yeah, especially outdoors. Smoke from flaming sporks is so good and sooty. Perfect for this.
