I have a 4.2” sp101 in .327 federal. I like my guns sighted so that the bullets impact at the top of the post, not behind the dot on the front sight. Very carefully shooting this gun off of sandbags with 100 gr .327 magnum federal it shoots low even with the rear sight at its highest adjustment.

I cannot seem to find a taller rear sight insert for this sp101 adjustable rear sight. Does anybody on here know if this is available?

I’m also open to a shorter front sight since I’m not of fan of how big the fiber rod is in the factory sight, but I can’t seem to find options for the dovetail front sight on the 4.2” models. Do any of you on here have any input?

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

If you have the normal Ruger adjustable rear sight,, then Ruger does offer a few different heights if their rear sight blades.

But something to look at as an alternative.

RW Grip Frames,, aka Ronnie Wells,, along with a guy named Fermin Garza,, (both are members here,) has a rear sight insert that's different all around. You remove the factory blade,, and spring. Then you add the spring & rear insert from Ronnie. It actually goes over the original rear blade base & provides an excellent sight picture. And I do recall he has different heights and slot widths as well. I think there are about 10 options for the type of slot picture you can get.

Thanks. I have looked into this. The adjustable rear sight on the SP101 is not the same as the normal Ruger rear adjustable. It's smaller. The design looks almost identical but it is scaled down. I was tinkering around last night and took a sight insert for a mk2 that is the same design but scaled up. Not having any luck finding a taller replacement I filed down the necessary dimensions on the triangle part of the mk2 insert and it fits. I now just need to take some material off the sides of the insert. I got me an additional 0.060” in rear sight height which should be pretty close.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!

I was not sure about the rear sight on the adjustable SP .327. I now find it interesting that the rear base is smaller & all on that model. Makes me wonder a bit.
