I was working on my sp101 22lr and could never get it quite like my girlfriends in terms of smoothness and lightness of trigger pull.
When setting up her gun I found that I had to use the stock hammer spring to get 100% reliability in DA. a bit heavy but tolerable.
when I originally got my gun (NIB) it was so tough to pull the hammer back that it felt like it was going to break parts on the inside. I figured a good cleaning and polishing would take care of it. it always has on the others I had purchased.
I got my gun to feel somewhat better but the trigger pull still felt friction heavy throughout the entire pull still .

Both guns are 2013 production.
I decided to clip the hammer spring just one ring. I did and my gun felt exactly like hers.
I took it to the range and a few FTF in DA. this is not acceptable to me.
Now I was a little confused as it was set up exactly like hers. The only difference was her hammer spring was metal brass tint colored and mine blue.
I called ruger to get a new spring and found out that sometime in the middle of the 2013 year they decided to switch hammer springs to the one I have on mine (blue). they did however send me both to compare.
Of course I put the metal hammer spring in first and WOW!!! it is exactly like hers (with the same polishing and light trigger spring treatment).
6 cylinders DA no failures and we are talking Remington bulk 550.
I am a happy puppy!
Now I know why I have read either on this forum or the other that some have recently posted that they think the sp101 22lr 8 shot is a POS.
Ruger what are you thinking!!!
I tried the blue spring and back to the uber heavy friction trigger. Seems to me at least that hammer spring is entirely too heavy.
For your info. the original hammer spring part number in the sp101 was KW00401
the new heavy as sh*t blue spring is KW00403.
I am going to order a couple of the older ones just for safe keeping.
