SP-101 Trigger Problem

Hi all,

I purchased a new SP-101 from Buds last week. When I picked up the gun at my local dealer the gun was dripping in oil. It looked like Ruger packed it in oil before shipping. Gun test round Sept 2011.

Well I pulled the gun a part and cleaned and lubed it. Dry firing has shown a problem. When firing double action sometimes I pull the triger and the hammer completes the cycle but the triger stays locked back. I have to cock and relase the hammer to get the triger loose.

First time it happened after approx. 75 rounds of dry fire. I took the gun apart and checked everything and no problems. Problem happened again after about 50 rounds of dry fire and still happens around 50.

Is this some stupid spring issue I can fix or do I need to send it to Ruger?

Sound like the springs are weak or someone spring kit in it .

There could be a bit of debris getting stuck in the trigger mechanism. You would be amazed if I showed you all the gunk I have removed from brand-new guns I have cleaned before firing, and Ruger is not the only culprit.

I bought a gp100 that had trigger issues also. But I am a clean freak and always completely disassemble and clean and lube every gun I buy. I found several peices of stainless steel floating around in the action of this gun. One peice was a large peice and I examined every part of this gun and couldn't find any surface this peice could have came from. I guess someone was assembling this gun and cleaning off a machine close by and maybe blew this peice into the action or trigger group before it was installed. It is now clean and lubed and one of the slickest smoothest working guns I own. I have piddled with guns all my life and have worked on them for the last 40 years on the side cleaning and little things like scope installs and sling swivels and completely disassembling and a a complete cleaning of each individual part and lubeing where needed. Most folks have no idea how to take a gun apart and get it put back together. I have had several guns brought to me in bags to put back together where the owner took them apart and couldn't figure out how to put them back together. I love working on them.

Well,
Out of a few dozen Brand New ruger wheel guns that have come through my hands in the years, I have never had one all oiled up like you said, usually the opposite real dry. Anyways, I would break the gun down and see if there is anything around the bottom of the hammer area any kind of foreign debris.
