Seems of late everything I post gets taken to task. Seems there are folks whon are soured on everything. I recently posted on Facebook the story of photo of my pocket knife and the rifle I carved with it from scrap walnut. I got this response from a dour correspondent:

"I'm not that kind of man, I guess. I never understood the fascination with knives, guns, and swords. Unless somebody lives in a kind of medieval fight club inside their head, what possible joy could any of that bring?"

Who was the cartoon character who went around with a rain cloud over his head?

Tell him to enjoy his Bud Light with a chaser of STFU.

Bob,
IMHO I think its where you post! you can not post anything on F/B and not expect to not get any flack from the jackass's  .
As said above your a Lion forget the Jackass's.;)

I think you are correct about where you post. I have the best "encounters" here and on bushcraftusa.com. Just generally more pleasant people. There are several sites I stay away from or if I visit I only read and don't post. There are some miserable people out there and they want to share.

Sometimes I spend a significant amount of time "crafting" a post - trying to make it clear, inoffensive, and if possible, not subject to misinterpretation but I get frustrated when a few - not talking about Rugerforum - seem to go out of their way to be provoked or insulted. I post less and less all the time.

I agree wholeheartedly with the Lion and worm analogy. I don’t care what anyone on farce book thinks.

It is an interesting thing. I’m a knife and gun nut from birth.

Even I’ve been uncomfortable around some people who seem to have an unhealthy obsession with them. I hope I never come off like one of them.

I’m also a tool nut. Knives and guns are really just tools. At least they occupy the same place in my brain. Give the same pleasure.

Bob I agree. The level of negativity I see, especially on gun forums leaves me shaking my head. For some people it seems that the misery that they have in their lives compel them to remove joy that others have. I for one chose to ignore them, don't give the debbie downers the power to influence your live and attitude.

He really asked what joy Knives, Guns, and Swords could bring to someone? Oh my, what does he consider fun?
Maybe he goes bowling. Or, sits in front of the TV watching NFL. Or maybe he simply LIVES to go pet a freaking dog.

We all have different likes and dislikes. I assume all of us on this forum are the gun knife kinda folks. Y'all can like what you like. I know that I hate lots of things. (sorry if I offended any puppy dog sports fans)

When I'm in public I refrain from talking about the above. I personally don't comment about guns and knives. You never know who's in the crowd. I'm never in the mood to argue or try to justify my hobbies.

Had an interesting conversation awhile ago on vacation. We were sitting by the lake on camp chairs under a shade tree when a guy came up on a bike to get out of the sun. We had small talk for a few minutes. Turned out he was from our town and commented he belonged to a club on such-and-such street. In my usual sarcastic self I said "NOT THAT GUN CLUB". He said "YES THAT'S IT". I said "ARE YOU A GUN NUT?" "YESSIREE". That's when I got up, shook his hand and said I belong there too.

HAHAHA after that we talked about S&Ws and our carry pieces.

As far as Farcebook, I don't post there AT ALL, not even about puppy dogs.

I just have to tell this story... forgive me in advance. I worked 44 years for a multi-national (read HUGE) company, My last 20 years were in the Corporate Headquarters of that company. One day I had to attend a luncheon that included a lady PhD consultant who had given a lecture to "us". Of course, they sat me right next to her at the luncheon table. As expected, conversations varied at the expected level of intellect UNTIL one of my colleagues turns to the lady PhD and says: "John hunts woodchucks on the weekends" (and probably some additional provoking info). With which, after the entire table totally stopped talking, the PhD lady looked at me and asked in a rather unpleasant way: "WHY do you do that?". My well dressed colleague sat (smiling) and waited for my answer, I paused to be sure everyone was listening and said (truly for effect): "I just like to kill s--t". THAT conversation ended and the PhD lady had no further questions. True story.

Ignore the 'gentleman'. His opinion is exactly that; his question/opinion. We have enough discontent here (jokingly said). Single action vs double action, semi-autos vs revolvers, .22 vs .44. Levis vs Wrangler. Any post on 'social media' can expect a reply; negative or positive. There are lots of 'glass half empty' people out there ... ignore them.

A man without tools isn't.

You didn't include the picture of the pocketknife or the rifle!!!

He may be jealous because he now knows that he missed out on the things that bring some folks great joy and comfort. Bet he doesn’t reload.
