I would prefer the P-85, or 89, over the LC-9. I still can't believe Beretta's 92 beating the P-85 in the military competition........

they definitely each have theyre own purpose. i wouldnt want to try to concealed carry a p85 all day! but i also wouldnt want to put hundreds of rounds at a time through an LC9...

The reason the Beretta beat out the old P85 is a simple one. With the Beretta you can hit what you're aiming at.

I don't know about hitting anything better with the beretta. I have a P90 and can put one big hole in the center of a target at 15 yards, No trouble. The Ruger hits dead center every time.

The P-85 and the P-90 are worlds apart. The P-90 was the most accurate .45 semiauto pistol I have ever owned! The P-85 on the otherhand, was easily, the most inaccurate handgun I have ever fired. After my first range session with this clunker, I quickly retired it to the bottom of Lake McMurray in Western Washington state.:roll:

I think the P series took a big hit from the accuracy of the original P85 and many people refused to give them a second look for a few decades. It is an example to me that a product needs to be engineered and tested better before released as people make decisions and aren't willing to come back to the product line. This is an area where Ruger still needs to get better at.

The only P85 I've ever shot is more than accurate enough to do anything you need it to. It wasn't designed to be a bench rest competitor, it was designed to work. And that's exactly what it does, work. You can put consistently solid hits on a man-size target at normal handgun distances, what more do you want?
