Someone mentioned roundabouts

As a teenager the next city over had a traffic circle. There were five roads leading into it. It worked quite well. Here in my town we have an intersection with
Five roads it’s a mess, even with massive reconstruction and computer controlled lights. They have their place.

On a side note we used to race the circle. Both cars start at one street and race around the agreed number of times and exit at the agreed point.

Speed wasn’t that high but lots of noise and tire smoke. We usually only got one run before the cops showed up. With five ways out they never busted anyone and could claim victory when we were gone.

They work there and Ireland too, because people have grown up with them. The thing I learned after driving a dozen times in both countries is the key is using your directionals and trusting everyone else to do the same.
