Soliciting tips on care & feeding of never shot Scout Rifle

This is exciting..... can't even recall the last time IF EVER I've acquired a new unfired centerfire rifle!!!!

Manged to trade my way into this one.....Now What???

308 rounds of various recipes available, but 150g JSP the only boolits loaded.

Looking to give the iron sights a trial run first

A buddy gave me his notion of break in....but he's OCD and was incredibly meticulous about even water-case-volume and precision primer hole calibration, etc.

He's a one-hole precision freak.

I'm thinking 'maybe 1 MOA?' if I do my part???

So tomorrow begins a few rounds downrange from the bench.

What's your best thoughts on such an outing?

Personally I would by several different companies offerings of 150 grs and 165 grs. Shoot them and see which ones work best for you. Chronograph as you go if possible. That way you will have info to help build a load from components! Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

After breaking-in the rifle, sighting it in, learning it's quirks and so on, buy yourself a box or two of Federal Gold Medal Match ammo to establish your "base line" accuracy with. Perhaps you can concoct a home-brewed load that will shoot better, perhaps not. In either event though, you'll at least known what your rifle is capable of.
I say that because when one is playing around with a "new to me" gun, it's best to not be dealing with too many variables at once. In other words, if ya start with known-good ammo, at least you'll know that any problems you may have won't be ammo-related.

Yeah, match ammo is expensive....but....so is burning handloads while chasing your tail around.

Would have been out in the freezing fog today but got a business call just as I was walking out the door to the already loaded-up rig......ah well.....there's tomorrow.....

Congratulations on your trade in purchase of the Scout Rifle.

I have traded in many a gun toward something I would rather have.

I say, keep it simple the first time out.

Bring one type of ammunition and work on getting a basic zero with Iron sights.

Take some time to study how the rear sight adjusts and bring your allen wrench loosen the set screws on the sight.

You are going to love that rifle.

The first one I picked up to look at, at the LGS a couple years ago was already sold; the second one I saw was already in-hand going home with the new owner; the third one was a Left hand model;.....and this one....is MINE hAHHHhhhahhhhdHAHhdhhhhhhaaa!

Took my scout to the 100yd range with my grandson 21yrs old we put 10 clays on the hill at the end of the range, with the peep sites he shot all 10 without an adj. I couldn't belive it I couldn't even make them out,i shot it at 50ft got em all had it abt. 1 year . great gun
