Anyone know where I might find a soft cast (or swaged), flat base, 250-ish SWC that is sized .454" ?....If not, how's about a RNFP in the same size/weight range?
I've looked over the offerings from several bullet companies, but haven't found anything yet.

Thanks.

Bucks, Who is "MP"? Is that mold similar to the RCBS 270-SAA mold that Scovill designed?

As I mentioned in another thread, I'm not casting yet, but by Christmas time I'd like to have myself getting set up to do so. For the .45 Colt, of course. :D - DixieBoy

Not Bucks...but here ya go...

Yup, a copy of the RCBS mould/bullet designed by Scovill. Bought one myself with three sets of HP pins. I try to cast mine about 9.5 Bhn for my NM Vaquero. Here's what they look like:

Large HP (265 grs.):

Penta HP (278 grs.-going from memory):

Small HP (283 grs.):

Cast as a non-HP SWC, mine weigh right at 290 grs.

I size mine .454" for my NM Vaquero simply because that's the size die that came with my "Star Lubrisizer wanna be lubrisizer". These bullets shoot VERY well in said Vaquero:

If you're interested in one of these moulds, I contact Mihec ASAP as he made a few extras.

Until you start casting your own, here's a company that has exactly what you want.

Good luck!

It's not a SWC, but have you looked at Hornady's swaged RNFP? If memory serves, they're .454. It's been a
while since I loaded any of them. - DixieBoy

Thanks Dixie.
I just looked at the Hornady website and yep, there they were...255/.454 swaged lead RNFP. Seems they come in 200 count boxes for $49...which is close to $250 per K...yikes  !

Perhaps I should be trying to buy a mold instead. .

Yep, that is indeed the bullet. I asked Mr Previc for a mold that dropped .455" bullets and he obliged. So, when sized .454" the three nose options come out to:

Penta HP: 275 grs
"Standard" HP: 280 grs
Plain SWC: 290 grs

(WW alloy)

Thanks for the help/photos...

BTW, I have used the .454" Hornady bullet mentioned, and find them satisfactory for their intended use which is CAS velocity. Too soft and lube marginal for anything above 850 fps or so...They will lead badly if you try to "go magnum"...

Just my dos centavos...
