Those are very nice looking grips! Where does snakewood come from?

thanks!

snakewood is from the Coastal regions of northeast South America, it's pretty rare and is also among the densest and hardest of all wood species worldwide.

I gotta say .... All these grips you guys keep showing are PRETTY, but it sure makes the gun a handful if your hands are wet or sweaty. I would NEVER have smooth grips on ANY gun meant for anything other than range use, and IMO, not even for range use. I will never have smooth grips on any gun that I own.

To each his own. I think most people that try their hand at making grips (especially for 1911's because they're so easy) make them smooth because it's easier and/or they don't know how to do checkering. I can't think of one combat oriented gun that comes with smooth grips, and in the end, aren't all guns combat guns ?

I'm not taking anything away from any of the beautiful grips that have been shown on the forum, but smooth just doesn't work for me on a gun.

Gorgeous Colt ya got there LSCG, but it needs some nice coco bolo double diamonds .... :D

Snakewood is awesome...
I lived in central and south America for many years and seen some nice products made from it.

well thank you for the compliment! but i'm afraid i'm going to have to disagree with you.

while checkered grips do help some, a checkered front strap and a checkered mainspring housing are much better for providing control and giving the shooter a no slip grip, now i know some people can't or don't want to have their front strap checkered and that's where skateboard tape/grip tape comes into play, it's very cheap and easy to use.

also i believe there were a lot of people killed with Colt sixguns that had smooth grips, and back in the day a colt was the most high tech combat handgun in the world.

but as you said, To each his own.

thanks for looking. :)
