Son has been trying to get an addition built on his house but the original contractor butched up the footings and then quit when called out on the mistake. Finally found another contractor who would fix the mess and finish the project. I went by last week to help Son fetch some materials for the forms being used to fix the misaligned footings. While there, I was talking to one of the builders and later realized I might have met him before. Turns out I had and this really makes me feel old.
The guy I was talking to is "late middle age" now but was a sandy haired 9 year old kid when I bought my first combine from his Dad. That was close to 1/2 century ago.

Well over 50 years ago I was a young Army officer living with my wife on base in a duplex unit. On the other side of the duplex was a somewhat older Warrant Officer and his family. Shortly after we moved in my wife delivered our first child, and sometime later our neighbor's little girl, about 11 or 12 at the time but a very responsible kid, offered to babysit our baby so we could get out for the evening. We knew that the girl's Mom was home as well, and we felt very safe using the young girl and giving her a chance to earn a few dollars for herself. While we stayed in touch for a number of years, eventually we lost contact with this family. Recently I found that "little girl", our first son's first baby sitter through Facebook and have re-established contact with her and her family. That "little girl" is now a grandmother several times over. Sometimes my mind has a tough time dealing with the reality of the passing of so many years. Her Mom had passed a few years ago, and her Dad is in his late 80's now and seems not to remember me (the very first time that I flew in a small plane was when I went up with him the day he got his pilot's license). And that "little girl" is now more or less my contemporary, and friend rather than just the daughter of a friend. Nice, but still odd in a way.
