Sling studs

Do you add sling swivel studs to your rifles and carbines? If installed correctly do they take away from the value of the gun?

If required, I have no problem adding sling studs and a decent sling. Some purists might think it takes away some value on a high dollar collector grade shotgun or rifle, but anything that costs under $10,000 I wouldn't worry about.

Often thought about adding them to my Model Four Remington but went with sling that does not require them. Not as nice looking but works.

I've had a few Deerstalkers with properly installed studs and then had collectors nickel and dime me when selling due to the studs. But ultimately they got bought anyway. I'd say if it's not already a safe queen collector gun, do what you want, it won't hurt the value too much. I'd think twice about putting them on something super collectible and minty with serious value.

For those of us who like originality …. The gun either came with them; or not. If not, I’ll either pass or lower an offer.

But if I’m buying a gun I intend to USE …. Makes no difference.

Thanks guys. I’ve always added them. This is the one I’m unsure of. Its a Marlin 39 centennial. Made in 1970.

Nope! Leave that 39 as is! A real beauty.

Sling swivels are for a firearm that you intend to use. If you are just collecting, then leave it alone.(IMHO)

I have a 70’s 10/22 finger groove that MAY have come with them…but I stupidly put a strap on it and the buckle scratched the stock. It devolved quickly to shooter grade So be careful in sling selection.

Came across a Marlin 99C in excellent condition except the previous owner added studs to the stock. Would of preferred it without the studs. Unfortunately they placed the rear one where the Marlin trademark bullseye goes!:mad: Moved the stud to the correct position and replaced the bullseye. Turned down a nice Marlin 336 for that same reason plus the $1000 selling price.

Beautiful gun for sure. Funny you mentioned the bullseye. My plan is to set up to drill for sling swivels and replace several missing bullseyes too.

I should of bought more factory bullseye when they were readily available. Tried one of the 3D printed ones on a website, worked and looked OK. Just not the same material as the original.

I noticed that, wonder if you could us a sharpie and make the center black. I guess depending on the material and if Ruger sells them yet.

I just checked ,Numrich Arms has originals! https://www.gunpartscorp.com/search#query=marlin gun stock bulleye when you get theer put "marlin bullseye" in the search are.

I scrolled through all 7 pages every bullseye listed says out of stock

I went through all my rifles. Ones that did not have them already got sling studs except for the Marlin Centennial.

I replaced two missing Bullseyes. With non originals. They look better than the open hole, but won’t fool anyone that knows better.

Emptied my entire safe cleaned oil and documented all the guns.

The only thing left is hammer extensions for some of the lever actions. So I ordered those.

Incase something happens to me. I wanted my son to be in good shape.

It was a daunting task because I already had a fair amount of guns then inherited 2 small collections.
