Skeletonized Trigger

I'm loving the look and reviews of the SR1911 so much that I'm thinking about getting one.

What's the purpose of the skeletonized trigger? Weight reduction or aesthetics?

I have an SR1911 and I love it, however the serrated front edge of the trigger irritates my finger a little, especially around the overtravel screw. I've thought about sanding it a little or filing or whatever but it's not really that bad, however I've heard the same complaint from others. The only thing I've changed on my gun is I swapped in a WC extended slide release, but I could see swapping out the trigger for one with a smooth face.

Ruger's SR1911 "long" skeletonized trigger provides an even longer finger reach than many other 1911 "long" triggers.
Mine was quickly replaced with a short trigger, to allow better, more comfortable shooting with my short fingers:

On very lightly sprung trigger jobs it is a weight reduction technique.

I also thought it was mainly looks. I like it and am fine with it.

It is for looks, as a composite or "plastic" trigger face is lighter than an aluminum skeletonized one. The trigger bows are all steel.

It's pretty hokey to me. just more cleaning.

The few that I've shot didn't seem to "feel" any different either.... And I can definitely see where cleaning those holes could get tedious.

How are those holes gonna get dirty ??

I've shot tens of thousands of rounds through guns with holes in the trigger and have never cleaned a trigger hole yet ...

I don't get the concern ...

I doubt they get all that dirty, but I'm kind of type-A and go over every square millimeter when I clean guns....well, to be fair, when I clean just about anything.

OK then ... a Que Tip ....

My standing joke is that I clean guns like you do right before I sell them ....

I have way too many guns, way too little time, and shoot far too often to clean a gun every time I shoot it. It sure can't hurt though ...

The original was cutting up my finger because they did not deburr the trigger stop adjustment screw hole.
This is one of the early ones off the line, test fired 5/7/2011 purchased 4/13/2011.

Gstan, on your front strap, is that a piece of non-slip material? If so, how does that hold up?

It has been holding up very well so far. Approx 500 rounds and looks like new.
It is actually a piece of non-skid self adhesive stair treads I got from an RV store.
