One I never wondered about until it was asked on the other forum...why do some Speed Sixes & Security sixes have a small hole in the front of ejector shroud & some don't? My Speed Six 3" GS83 has the hole and my GS33-PS 3" doesn't. Edit: maybe a picture would help...

My 155- sn# prefix 2 3/4" Security Six has the hole. On another forum a poster has two 1985 sequentially numbered Security Sixes, one has a hole & one doesn't. That's why I posted here. G!ad after 147 views you two were curious too. Maybe it's a secret Bill Ruger took to the grave;)

I can't answer the question, but I checked the six Security/Service/Speed Sixes I have on hand and they ALL have the small hole. They run from serial number prefix 151 (1975 manufacture) to 159 (1984 manufacture).
I'm curious too.

Both of mine have the hole also, but Stonebuster isn't the only one that has one without the hole. On the "other" forum a guy has consecutive Security Sixes only one SN apart, one with and one without the hole.

Every one of mine has the hole so, the ones without are probably a factory second.

LOL
Neither of my 162- prefix NYCPD 4" Service Sixes have the hole. Must have something to do with the spring loaded locking gizmo/pin that snaps into the end of the ejector rod.

I just sent Chad an email, he might have some info on this. We have a member that went to the armorers class back when the Sixes were still in production. I'll give him a shout to see if he knows anything about it.

All I can think of is that it may aid in disassembly if that Front Latch (KE-31) and spring (KE-60) gets gummed up with grime and won't come out after removing the retaining cross pin (E-56).

If that were the notion for having the hole, I can't think of a reason why some of them don't have it. Except being non-essential, it may have been a machining step that was sometimes skipped/overlooked.
