Single Six Sight Adjustment and Acceptable Groups

Hi,

I shot four six shot groups at 15 yards resting my hands on a pillow. The average group size was 1.7" with CCI Mini Mags. Is this considered average for the Single Six? Also, I am not a good shooter, so I'm sure someone else could have done better.

Also I was shooting just to the right with every group and two types of ammunition. What is the best method to drift the rear sight to the left?

Doesnt your rear sight have screws so you can adjust the elevation and windage?

Actually, it's a fixed sight.

If it's a fixed sight model there is no way to drift the rear sight, since there's nothing to drift.
You have three basic options for windage:
Have a gunsmith mill the sight channel on one side to widen it slightly & move the point of impact.
Have a gunsmith rotate the barrel slightly to do the same.
Have a gunsmith bend the front sight blade. Absolute LAST resort.

A pillow isn't the best rest.
And- there's a difference in elevation POI between shooting with the gun gripframe/hand supported and shooting with the grip/hand not supported. More so with higher-recoiling centerfires, but still a difference.

It's an old model with a rear sight that is dovetailed, so it should be adjustable for windage only. I'm guessing you just tap it with a punch, but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better way.

Ah.
My fixed-sight Single-Six just has the topstrap groove, thought that's the one you were refering to.
Yep, tap that rear blade in the direction you want the bullet impact to go. If you want the gun to shoot "lefter", tap it to the left.
Use a BRASS or aluminum punch, NOT STEEL.
Go easy on the hammer, some take more effort than others to move.

They move easier if you put a drop of oil in front and back of the dovetail. just in case it's a Lightweight alloy frame, there is a lock screw under the sight.

That's about par for the course for any .22 revolver. And your SS has a bore diameter that was designed to safely shoot .22 Magnums, so it's actually a hair oversize for .22LR, consequently, Single Sixes aren't particularly known for "tack-driving" accuracy. You say you're not the best shot, but you're actually doing pretty well with it. A better shot might shrink those groups a little but I don't think you have anything to worry about as regards the accuracy of the gun itself. Sounds like a good'un. :wink:
