Came upon a clean RSS5 flatgate revolver yesterday. It was about 85-90%, slight muzzle wear, with wood panels. Serial # was 60053. Dealer asking $400.00. I haven't been involved in buying back Old Rugers. What's the concensus on price?

Fair price for the condition, assuming no box & not converted, Sounds like a nice late flatgate shooter.

You are in Ruger country. IMHO, $400 is a Western U.S. price for a "shooter grade" Flatgate Single-Six.

Of course, exact condition is paramount when discerning values. Your nomenclature is not "period correct" since all Single-Sixes were model RSS back in the days of the late flatgates. The "wood panels" may make or break the deal, IMHO. They should be rather nicely made walnut grips with a somewhat "high gloss" finish and they should have the black eagle medallions.

This is a Type III Flatgate. None were "shipped" with the walnut grips installed, however dealers and also the Factory would supply walnut grips for a few bucks. (In today's market a better than average condition pair of early Ruger walnut grips are worth a HUNDRED DOLLARS or so.)

If the gun is sporting some original Ruger walnut grips then the asking price is way more than "fair".

JMHO,

flatgate
