single six magnum only OM

Are the Single Sixes in 22 magnum only more desirable than the convertible models? Or excuse me, did they even make an OM convertible model? I found a single six marked "WIN 22 RF MAG CAL." It is an unconverted OM.

Just thinking about buying it... it's very very clean and hasn't been re-blued.

i have one made in 1959. got it for putting a radiator in a car.its 22mag only.

This one is made in '56 I think, it's tempting because according to the serial number lookup on ruger.com, they only made them for 10 years.

Not a bad payment for a radiator either by the way...

Buy it. It "completes the set" so to speak. And there were even some of the "magnum-marked" ones furnished with .22LR cylinders . . . the "reverse convertibles". All were 6-1/2" guns.

Yes . . . there were 4-5/8" and 5-1/2" and 9-1/2" conventional OM convertibles.

And then came the OM Super Single-Sixes, most were converts.

There's a problem here:

Can't be 1956, the 22 mag single sixes weren't introduced until 1959 at serial # 300,000.

What's the # of the gun?

Yes you are correct. The serial number is 33... so it's a 1962 gun. I was doing that from memory. I'm going to call the store today and have them hold it for me. I'll post some pictures when I get it. Ale-8(1) is right, it will complete a "set" more or less for me. I have more variations of single sixes than any other Ruger model.

I picked up one that had a good deal of holster wear but was otherwise in great shape. Somewhere I picked up a 22 lr CO Centennial cylinder that fit perfectly. It is a great packing gun.

Biggest issue I had was that when I purchased it, 22 WMR ammo was all but impossible to find locally.

I know, 22 mag is very hard to find. I've been buying a box or two whenever I see it. I have two other convertible single sixes. So I'm excited about this gun.

Interestingly enough, yesterday at Walmart I saw they had CCI 22 short. I think I've only seen that for sale once or twice, ever. I'd love to have a dedicated 22 short pistol, like a high standard, but the lack of ammo scares me off.

A nice substitute for 22 Mag and often a bit less expensive is the 22 WRF (Winchester Rim Fire), and formerly obsolete cartridge. However special runs have been produced in recent years. Similar performance but not the same as the Magnum.

I have found it easier to get 22 mag ammo over the 22 WRF. It is appearing more often now as things SEEM to be settling down in the r/f dept.

Magnum marked Rugers are a niche in our collecting that we all should have a few,,,! Good luck on this one!

Even during the 22LR lull, I could frequently find 22 mag at Sports Authority. They shut ours down here, don't know about Texas.
