Three weeks after ordering, the stupid Hawaii 14 day waiting period etc etc I was finally able to pick it up. Got er home and am very please so far. Good tight lock up, excellent finishing and fit. Only one prob.....
Bought a 4X32 handgun scope for it about 2 weeks ago from Midway. Put the rings on it and discovered the front sight is in the way and will not permit the scope to move forward AND the rear ocular bell hits the rear sight! The rings have a number "4" on them. looks like I'll have to call Ruger and trade the rings I have for a higher set. Really don't want to remove any sights, especially the rear since it is pinned in.
Any advice?

Thanks :D

Something simple to try. The rear sight is adjustable. Try turning the sight all the way down. Some times you can gain just enough clearance.

I would put the rings back in the package, while they still look new, and send them back to Ruger and trade for a higher set. You can shoot it open sights while you're waiting on the return. OR get a different scope. Which scope do you have?

I had the same problem with the rear sight. I got the highest rings and now it's fine. It's a great shooter without the scope too, I'm very happy with mine.

Hmmmm never thought if that, will try and see what happens. Been trying to reach Ruger and I get the message that due to unforseen circumstances their office is closed. Wanted to get the new rings and cross ship the old ones back. Anyone know of any probs at Ruger in New Hampshire?

Is this the pistol specific version? Either way, the ring swap is almost certainly the way to go. Ruger will do this if they are new rings. I wouldn't tell them they've been installed, as long as they look new. No harm no foul, IMO.

Why not just remove the rear sight? Afterall, you are installing a scope and will no longer be using the iron sights.

Nothing personal, but that ranks up there with duct tape and bailing wire. Now don't get me wrong, they are both useful. But if you're going to spend $500-600 on a nice revolver, you might as well get the right rings and fix it right, IMHO.

Yup, sure is. I posted earlier that I could not get in touch with Ruger in New Haven, NH. Well duh it was their lunch time   ! I should have known. Anyway got them on the horn and new set of number 5's are being shipped free of charge. Offered to leave them with my card number but they refused and said just wait till the new ones arrive, try them and if good, ship the ones that came with the pistol back, if the new ones are still too low give them a call and they'll ship out #6's etc etc. They also said to make sure the rear sight in screwed all the way down. WOW what great customer service! Happier than a Hawaiian at a all you can eat event!

Mrgaf: You have one of my favorite revolvers there. If you've done any searchs, you may already know that. I hope yours is as accurate as mine.

A 4X scope on a .22 handgun. Interesting. I'd like to see a photo when all is done. Could be a bit top-heavy.

On mine, the front sight pin presses down allowing the whole front sight to slide out. Maybe try that. I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 2-6x on mine, and it just barely clears the rear sight.

...and yes, mine is VERY heavy.

Yeah, its pretty much overkill, but it was included when I bought it. The higher powers are mainly just for shooting groups at 50yds. 2x is all you need, especially on a 22
