I'm just wondering about the difference between new and old model "extra" cylinders. I bought an old model single six with a .22 cylinder. My boss bought the same gun 3 weeks later with a .22 mag cylinder. I wnat a .22 mag cylinder, and noticed that his mag cylinder looks like a new model cylinder. Are new and old model cyliders interchangeable, or do all of the mag cylinders just look the same? Do I need to look for cylinders from the same year to find a replacement? Any help would be appreciated.

Your Old Model Single-Six will have to be SN 150000 or later to shoot 22mag. due to difference in barrel specifications.

Old Model 22mag cylinders were fluted and looked just like the 22lr cylinder. The only way to tell them apart was by the breech end of the cylinders.

Single-Six convertibles will have the last 3 digits of the serial number stamped or etched into the face of the extra cylinder.

New Model 22mag cylinders are unfluted and are roll marked 22 magnum.

Basically New and Old Model cylinders are interchangeable. It is the Over All Length of the cylinder, from back of the ratchet to the front of the boss that counts. Measure the OAL of the cylinder that is in your gun and try to find one the same length, or slightly longer and have it fitted. Some will drop in and work, some will need Smithing.

That's the part that is confusing me! The 3 screw .22 mag cylinder that came with the gun my buddy bought has an unfluted cylinder. It's a tight fit. Is this the original factory cylinder? The serial number is 20-6158_.

The unfluted cyl. didn't come with the gun.
