Silvers recoil pads. Has anyone installed one of these on their rifle? Mainly what I want to know is: Do they sand to shape similarly to Pachmayrs pads? Also Do they reduce recoil as good as Pachmayrs? They do appear to look nice when correctly installed. Any comments of experience are appreciated.

They absolutely DO NOT absorb recoil like a Pachmayr pad...this is turn of the (last) century technology, though updated a little from a materials standpoint, and nowhere near as forgiving. But they install as easy as anything I've done, and I like that the screw holes are covered with plugs instead of just poked through the pad.

Pachmayr makes a red and/or an orange Decelerator that is more effective at reducing recoil and still gives the look of a fine English rifle.

I should have noted that the Silver's pad is better at absorbing recoil than the standard hard Ruger pads I'm familiar with.

That might work. The only problem I have with the Silver's is the plugs are quite large that cover up the screw holes. But that said, they really dress up a gun for sure.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your information on the Silvers recoil pads. I have had quite a bit of experience installing Pachmayr pads. I definitely want a red or orange pad for a #1. I saw that Pachmayr offered the red pad only in a medium size and was afraid that it might be too large for a #1 butt. I once installed a medium Decellerator pad on a Remington shotgun buttstock and sanded through to the steel insert therefore ruining it. The insert in a medium pad is 1.450" wide and the buttstock of my new 1A is only about 1.600" if I measured correctly. Do the Silvers pads have a metal insert in them? I know that a Pachmayr Decellerator Pad would probably feel better on a 7 pound 30-06 shooting 180 grain loads!

That's a great question. I do not believe they have a metal insert in them. There are also a few copies out there which are comparable to the Silver's for a tad less money. Providing the following link for you as well.
