Let's see em and hear about them! I've only seen the Ruger Factory pics.... for those who have these models.... how do you like them? how do they shoot?

Ok... let's add pics and tales of the Montado 45's too..... same questions on those!

Thanks!

Montado .357 top, Sheriff .44 Sp bottom (added Montado hammer). Love 'em! Great fit and finish.

If anybody wants one of these bad boys in blue or stainless, better get on it. There were only 510 in blue and 506 in stainless made. My contact at Lipsey's says you better get on with getting one as they're just about gone!
There were also exactly 500 of the blue and 503 of the stainless non-sherriff's model with 4-5/8" barrel.
When you talk to them at Lipsey's be sure to tell them Chad H. sent you!

Regarding the 4-3/4", I've heard of zero sightings to date. My dealer I'm on the waiting list with, who supposedly is in good graces with Lipseys, says no word yet in either trim level, verified with Lipsey's contact.
I know of a blued Sheriff locally (new/dealer)--at least was there yesterday.

Chad,
Thanks for the numbers. I sort of figured they'd be low production. I got mine! :D

If anyone is looking for the 44 Special Vaquero's I have them. Model 5145 is a SS 3 3/4" Barrel, Model 5146 is a blued 3 3/4" barrel, Model 5147 is a SS 4 5/8", and Model 5148 is a Blued 4 5/8". There is also the New Flat top Bisleys. Model 5235 5.5" blued and 5236 4 5/8" Blued. I only have a few of the 5.5" The Vaqueros are $549 shipped and the Bisley Blackhawks are $509.

Can you show a few pics of the 3 3/4 and 4 3/4 blued guns?

Thanks

I wouldn't wait. I was handling my Montado 2 nights ago wishing it was blue. I thought about the blue 44 Sheriff models. Stood up, went straight downstairs to the computer and found two classified ads (not auctions) on Gunsamerica for new ones at $510 and $520. Bought the one for $510. Also found a new 4 5/8 New Vaq ad at the same dealer for $500. It was still there next mroning when I called in my credit card #.

What was your dealer asking for the Sheriff Model?

That's a beautiful set! I put those Montado hammers on my pair of blue flat tops. I took the standard hammers from the flat tops and put one in my Montado with the blue polished off and one will go in the Sheriff with blue left on to replace that ugly new one.

Will post a range report with pictures as soon as mine gets out of 10 day quarantine at my local dealer. But if they shoot like my flat tops I'll be very happy indeed. One ragged hole groups benchrested at 15 yards (I can't see the target clearly much beyond that anymore) with a Skeeter load of 7.5 grs Unique/240 gr bullet and Taffins 15.3 grs of 2400 load/ same bullet. 1 1/2 to 2 1/2" groups at 25 yards benchrested, but that's my eyesight.

Montado shoots as good but replaced the XR3 grip frame with an XR3RED frame to keep from rapping my knuckles! Pics to come.

I also wanted one of them .44spec Vaquero's with the short barrel. Gonna have to wait on into next yr now. steve b

Mine is stamped just "Vaquero", not "New Vaquero" even though it's the smaller New Vaquero frame.

Hondo44, thanks for the earlier comments. I don't recall what the dealer here ws asking for the blued Sheriff--I can check. I think mid-5s. Good outfit but not known for cheapest prices. It's not the one I have my blued 4+ coming into.
Unfortunately, I'm set ordering and budget-wise on my blued 4-5/8 coming in. I could only have two and I wanted them distinctive from one another--in length and trim. Also, though normally not a stainless fan (why I have four such in various Vaqueros and Vaqueritos now?!), my reasoning was I thought the stainless in the Sheriff would be more "obvious," visually pops that it was a shorty...Less likely for anyone--including myself--to say, now which one is that one over there? Also I liked the "Doc Holiday" look--or my stereotyped vision of!

Someone mentioned wishing theirs was blue, but I warmed up to mine being SS right off. Quite a piece and really looks "special" just the way it is! Ruger does a nice job on the polished stainless...really does look like nickle at a glance, even long glance, and helped along with a set of faux ivories or hollys. Was helping a friend who just had a stroke go through some of his guns to thin the herd--Rugers Vaqueros and Colts--and we kept mixing them up, from not that far a distance, the nickle and stainless ones especially.

Who knows if the Sheriff Vaquero is stamped "New Vaquero" or just "Vaquero"?

To my knowledge they're all stamped "VAQUERO". Anybody have any of the Lipsey's .44 Specials that are stamped "NEW VAQUERO"?

Well, all this talk about a short 44 got me all bothered. I just ordered one. I hope to have it in hand Wednesday!

I'll post pics since nobody else would! ha ha

I got a Blued model.

Mine arrived yesterday. feels great in my hand. Can't wait to put the standard hammer from my flat top 44 in it that I replaced with a montado diamond target hammer in the FT.

How is the FT's (assuming talking NM FT 44?) hammer any different from the NV's?

The FT hammers are standard New Blackhawk hammers.

The New Vaqueros except Montados (which came with target hammers) and another Davidson's exclusive that came with a standard Blackhawk hammer, all come with that new extra long spur hammer that was supposed to be more like a Colt but Ruger over did it IMO.

Ruger did improve the standard New Model Blackhawk hammers by making them with a narrower shank so they don't stick out of the frame so far when at rest. Also made the base larger to fit flush with the ''ears'' on the grip frame.

Thanks. Learn something new every day. My personal experience with the mid-frames has only been with the standard NVs and Montados. I hadn't noticed and, other than the Montados, assumed a mid-frame was a mid-frame...in these mechanical regards.
I don't disasagree regarding the high-swept long spur NVs...they went too far. Why mine either have or are destined for Montado/SBH types, but this gives another option.
