Looking for advise/links/soothing tones

Have 22/45 LITE with about 1000 rounds thru it.

Been to factory once for rehab. Returned improved with suitable transplants, yet still fails to achieve satisfactory performance....ie 'goes bang every time'. Side by side range bench targets with RST4 circa 1953 model, has groups plum size at 20' while the LITE remains 'minute of grapefruit'. :(

Current concerns:

1) after market magazines are simply unreliable with any of 1/2 dozen different brands tried: WHO/what/where are improvements? Is 'factory only' recommended? The 2 that came with the pistol are verging on 'nearly reliable'.

2) precision trigger for this beastie may be desirable.
What have other owner/operators of the LITE done to improve theirs?

Getting grapefruit sized groups off the bench at 35'....seems to be function of gritty/harsh trigger.

So far the singular best functioning ammo has been HV jacketed HP Remmies.
ANY with lead bullets inevitably jam at least twice per magazine.

Advise/comments/tips/discussion solicited. Please be specific.

Both of mine will shoot better than you describe. They each have:

Tandemkross hammer bushings - eliminates the silly magazine "safety", allows mags to drop free, and cleans up the trigger pull a wee bit.

Volquartsen sears - cleans up the trigger pull a bunch.

Tandemkross Loaded Chamber Indicator filler plates - removing the LCI improved feeding in both of mine.

Don't you just LUV it. You ask for some help or advice and all you get is a response about how well someone else's works. The gritty, harsh trigger is a staple of the Lite pistols and commonly seen. I have had quite a few of the Lite models cross my bench that had the same condition as yours does. The gritty feeling when pulling the trigger can usually be attributed to burrs on the disconnector. If you have the patience, you might want to pull the disconnector out and polish all the edges to remove the sharp corners. Pay some attention to the window in the disco where the right end of the hammer bushing rides. Get yourself a Volquartsen Target Sear. That part alone will reduce your trigger pull to a better 2-1/2 to 3 pounds and still remain safe. That should get you started as to getting a smoother operating pistol. As far as the magazines are concerned. I did a post here a while back on "tuning" your magazines so that they operate much more smoothly, and it's not all that difficult, or time consuming to do. Of course, I guess I could've just told you that, "I've not had ANY trouble with any of my magazines, they work very SMOOTHLY".

Thanks to all posting above, I have learned from them. I hope to overcome what seems an otherwise fine pistol.

'Search' for 'tuning magazines' produces "Sorry but you cannot use search at this time. Please try again in a few minutes." just like it always does....I've never been able to Search in this forum.

However, with a link I certainly would review the 'tuning magazine' with great interest.

Already I see need to attend to some parts the factory did not seem to care much about on it's return voyage.

Frustration builds today; the new TV continues with a glitch, now standing at FOUR calls to 'tech support' of which both the ones today were mysteriously 'cut off' just as we got to the crucial part of the 'what to do to fix it' part.

Have to always embarrass someone before you can offer anyone help? Oh but you do like to use the smilies.

He's the same crabby arse over at RFC (though he uses a different handle), maybe he's had a rough time with life? There's really no excuse for such poor behavior, but some folks never learn civility.

I'm still looking for that link.

thanks for the link djw54. It won't display for me. I've reset my 'display posts' for 1 year back, and it still won't display.

Could I ask please for a 'copy/paste' either in a PM or on this thread? Ultimately the magazine issue remains. The 2 factory mags are mostly reliable, while the 4 after market models, which look identical in all but the Ruger logo, are mostly unreliable.

FWIW
The 22/45 Lite Tom bought last month is a "grapefruit" shooter, too. We're hoping it just needs more lead down the barrel to improve as we were expecting it to be equal to the 4" slabside I modified with adjustable sights last year.

I painted the top half of the front site with hi viz orange sight paint pen from amazon. I am thinking about removing the magazine disconnect. I added a suppressor which has it sounding quieter than a pellet gun. I started a different thread to find out what the deal is on these dents in the face of the breach. Other than that, just one outing so far, but so far, so good.
