Looking at a very nice 2 3/4" SS security six original wood grips no box but has the manual. The gun is in real good condition He is firm at $450.00 and I would have to sell one of my guns to finance this buy. That price seems about a $100.00 to high to me. I am in the desert southwest where prices are generally not inflated to bad and the economy here is real bad. My question is that a rare or not common gun? I don't recall seeing many of this configuration. or is he just over priced?

In my opinion, yes, it is about $100 too high to be a good buy.

$50 too high to be an OK buy.... 8)

bigtubby,
It would depend on exactly what your looking at?Is it .38 Spcl or .357?
Type I frame (low back) or Type II frame (high back).
If we had the Serial # would help us help advise you. It could very well
be worth that price but without knowing exactly what you are looking at
its hard to say. Could you provide the s/n and a couple of pics?
Best of luck to you.
Terry

I have edited this to add a picture for you to compare. Does the gun look
like this one only with a regular hammer? Please note the frame and
shape of these grips?

Terry it is .357 it is a high back serial #156-028xx no pics as I don't have the gun yet!!

I'm inclined to believe it would be an OK deal, if you're looking for a 2-3/4" Stainless Security Six .357; not a good deal. I'm still looking for a 4" SS Police Service Six and expect to have to pay $400.

I'd like to get one of those in the $375 range but ..... can't remember the last time I saw one for sale here locally at ANY price.

bigtubby, I'd hold out for Sunday afternoon at the next Las Vegas gunshow! When I lived in the southwest, that's where I found my "best" deals bar none!. People needing to generate some cashflow usually turn loose around 3 pm at that show. You'll find what your looking for (it's a big show) at a much cheaper price than $450!..........................Dick

Dick you did it!!! your advice about the gun show was what I needed I told him my final offer was $350.00 or I would look for one at the gun show. So I am going to pick it up now. Pics to follow.
Thanks to all for your input!!

Very nice! Good price. Super Vel, wow, seems to me I had some of that about 25 years ago. Does it have a kind of treated surface hollow cavity bullet?

ya, that is the ammo that came with it so I don't think this has been shot much in the last 20+ years

My local hangout sells them for $299 when they get them.

I gotta move to another state. The Boise (Idaho) shows typically have Security Sixes in the range of $400 to $450. I never buy them for that and have found occasional private sellers in the $300-$325 range.

you will have to pop over to wenatchee (bout a 3hr drive) and check out high mountain hunting supply. they have a web site and we can race down there when they have a service six.
i quit going to gun shows cause they always want about 30% more than what the gun is worth. i have even seen double a guns value on the price tag.

"more pics, with it's twin brother speed six. Bad part is I am going to have to sell something pay for it. Blue speed six anybody!! "

Are you still selling your Blue Speed Six? Would you PM with your price?

That is a super looking Sec. Six! I scored on a like new blue 4" for 299.00 but I must admit I like that shorter barrel and the stainless looks nice on that gun.

bigtubby, Nice score and a great looking pair! Glad to be of help to you. Evidently the seller has "heard" of the Vegas gun show too!..................Dick :D

"Evidently the seller has "heard" of the Vegas gun show too" or that is where he wanted to go spend some money on something else?

Good catch bigtubby, feels good to get what you want for the price yer willing to pay :D .............................................

You should be able to get $25 for the box of Super Vel, maybe more. List it in the classifieds here or take it to the next gunshow. That and skipping lunch a few times this month and maybe you won't have to sell another gun to finance this deal. Good Luck!
