Did the stainless models come equipped with rubber grips? I usually see wood grips, but recently saw a stainless 357 6" with rubber grips that had Ruger inserts in the grips. Was this a factory item. Were the stainless Security Six a high polish gun? here is a pic of gun in question. Any opinions on price? Just the gun as far as I know. I say high polish because in the other pic received I can clearly see the photographer reflected in the recoil shield.

No, the common factory grips are the wood ones. I believe the rubber ones were Ruger accessory grips but there may have been some factory guns shipped with them. I'm sure one of the collectors here have a detailed answer to that.
No, the common factory stainless guns are a brushed finish.. But see my caveat above since it applies here too. LOL

A call to ruger records with the ser. no. will get you the model number.
If this is a 357 mag. then it would be a GA-36. If it is a GA-36P, then it left the factory with the rubber grips.

I do not believe the Security Sixs came in high gloss but some of the later SP-101s and GP-100s did. Ruger Records should be able to verify it if it came from the factory with the high gloss finish. On the other hand, it could have been polished out by a prior owner.

I'm not able to find a reference to any high polish guns offered in the Six models. A GA-36P would have a white outline rear sight too.

+1 , the Six series guns made from 1986-88 during the "transition" to GP100 production often came with the Sile rubber grips with the Ruger medallion. I have 4 security trade in Service Sixes made in 1987 and 3 of them had those rubber grips, and one had the factory slim wood grips.

It seemed that when Ruger started producing the GP100, the remaining Six series revolvers were "clean up" guns or guns made from parts, and they used up the remaining wood grips and just used the Siles.

By the way, to me the Siles grips are just about the perfect size for a Security Six. I bought my gun new in 1984 and have had a number of different grips on it over the years. Picked up a set of NOS Siles without the Ruger inserts some time back and fell in love, they've stayed on that gun ever since.

To me, being polished takes away from the value but ..... to each their own. Aound these parts a mint or near mint 6" stainless Security Six will command $400.00 in a heart beat; regardless of what grips came on it or live on it now.

I emailed the guy with the gun asking him about the high polish and never received a reply. I guess this deal headed south. By the way, $400 was his asking price , gun only.

Im pretty sure any Six new enough to have come with the rubber grips would have had the red ramp front sight insert and the scalloped out recoil sheild on the right side.

Gun only, modified finish, $400? I'd pass.
Just got a very nice condition 1989 vintage GP100 4" Blued with some expensive Hogue wooden grips on it for $300. Be patient and keep looking, you can do better.

I usually don't worry too much about the grips, the Siles and wood slim grips, along with the Big Grips are out there so you can put pretty much whatever you want on it.

Worst case scenario, I have put a set of Pachmayr Presentations on a few of my Sixes that I use as range shooters!

I guess nobody looked up in the "attic" back then for all those wood grips they show on their website now.
