I have a high back GA-86 but someone messed it up and stamped their initials on the side of it. I think it's Calvin Hobbs Peters or some such name.

What is the difference between the high and low backs? I have a 150-91420, it's only a shooter. It looks like the two in the pictures to me, but I don't know what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

SmokepoleSam,

Let's see if I can explain it. In the photos below, there is a "high back" Security Six above a "low back" Security Six. The difference between the two is the grip frame on the "low back" is not as tall as the "high back", therefore has more of the hammer exposed coming out of the top of the grip frame. The portion of the hammer that I'm talking about is below the hammer spur behind the recoil shield, above & forward of the grip panel. I hope this answers your question. If not, maybe another Ruger Forum member can.

wmg,

Just joking around.

However, your photo might have helped SmokepoleSam to see the differnce between the "high back" & "low back" grip frames. Oh well, I added photos of the two grip frames & hopefully answered his question.

Those are nice! This one is an RDA 34, from 1971:

Gotta love those lowbacks and white boxes. I've also got a blued lowback snubby without box, but can't find a photo right now.

To me, the original "low back" version had more of a "Ruger feel" to it, almost reminiscent of the XR3RED frame, while the later "high back" felt more like a S&W grip.

JMHO, you understand. I also think the Security Sixes had a very "Ruger look" to them, with shades of the single-actions in the profile around the top strap and the recoil shields.

:)

FWIW.... mine is 150-62256. I've had 2 of the 6" model low backs. Still own one. Sold the other to my brother and he still has it. But had never even seen a 4" low back up close. Last spring I came across a classified on TFL site. Price was right so I bought it.

is this why the 150 series grips wont fit the 151 series?

You gonna be in Redding show this weekend LMD?

Drove all the way down, got there and the parking lot was EMPTY.

Rocky Mountain Gunshows had a little blurb hidden in their website "canceled"

Shucks
