I have not seen any gp 100's listed with a scope. How difficult is it to install a scope on a gp 100? does anyone hunt with a GP 100?

Thanks

If you have the 6' for hunting you can get the Weigand no-drill mount otherwise there are not too many options besides drill and tap mounts.:D

Thanks

does drilling and tapping effect the strenght of the gun or have any negative impact? what is average cost to drill and tap?

thanks

The strength reduction is not much of a factor. I think a gunsmith would probably charge you about $25 to drill and tap a mount onto a handgun. :D

I found one of the mounts that use the front and rear sight cuts to attach. I'm just holding onto it for future use if I decide I want a scoped GP100. They're out there, just not a common find.

Yes. D&T hurts resale value. Everybodys different but I won't look at a gun that was drilled and tapped unless it's just crazy cheap.

I don't know what you plan on hunting with a .357 Magnum but assume it's deer or bigger. If I were you, I'd seriously consider looking into a Redhawk that's already equipped with the scope rings. .41 Mag is my perference.

Have you ever tryed a scoped handgun. I put a scope on a mkII once. I am just a plinker and not a serious target shooter. Free handed I couldn't hold the pistol close enough to shoot. With open sights you don't notice the wobble where the scope shows every bobble and I couldn't enjoy shooting with the scope. If you were to put it on bags every shot it would probably be ok. But my average shooting is free handed and I do pretty well with open sights. I can usually shoot a group at 25 yds about 1 1/2" but with the scope the movement made me not want to shoot. I removed the scope and enjoyed shooting again and didn't notice the sights moving. I know they still do but I don't see it so it doesn't worry me.

I have been shooting this rig for a while and have yet to have a problem.

Me too....after seeing this, I bought one and put an Ultra dot on my GP. All told the weight up to 54 oz.
