In the last few days I acquired a new stainless steel Super BH 5 1/2" bbl. The grips on this revolver are very poor fitting, with the frame protruding up to 1/8 inch beyond the grip edge for most of its length. It's particularly bad around the bottom of the grip where the frame points were left sharp and protrude enough to cut. My question is whether any of you have had any luck dealing with Ruger on such an issue or whether is this just considered par for the course. I have three Blackhawks and an Old Army and none of them have this problem. I plan to call Ruger CS and see what they have to say, but wonder if any of you might have any advice.

A polite call to Ruger will likely get you a set of new grips ASAP.
I have to wonder about your measurement of 1/8" though. That's a HUGE amount of metal showing in most cases. In fact,, I was first thinking you may have a set of Blackhawk grips installed on a Super. But the grip locator pin wouldn't allow that kind of mistake. Plus, you mentioned " beyond the grip edge for most of its length" so I would say that it's highly unlikely you got Blackhawk grips instead of Super ones.
Just call Ruger & explain what happened,, & I'm sure it'll get taken care of.

Not a SBH but I recently emailed on my Redhawk convertible. I emailed the CEO
on a Saturday and suggested that Ruger spend a few extra minutes and $ and
improve on the fit of grips to frame on $1000 retail gun. Bright and early Mon. I
got a call from a man at Ruger(can't remember his name,sorry) asking what my
issue was he asked me if I'd OK him referring me to their CS dept. About 5
minutes later Jan in CS called and emailed a Fed Ex label. I haven't packed it up
yet because I lost the RMA #. It will be going out Mon. I am impressed with their
response so far and I'm sure it will be right when it comes back.
I had considered swapping out to aftermarket grips but the round butt grips are
scarce.
I'll take some pics and post before and afters once it returns.

Naw! I usually just take an RG outside and scrape it on the sidewalk until it fits.

It's a little hard to see in the top pic but bright line of metal shown along the rear of the grip in the lower pic is the actual side of the grip-frame

I don't know. It's my understanding Ruger won't sell the grips seperately and even then it's a crap shoot. If Hogues would fit I'd buy a set for shooting but they all have an open backstrap. Pachmayrs have bad reviews on Amazon about the fit. So back it goes.
That rounded- butt pistol in the picture looks a lot like the grips on my new SBH, except my frame is showing all the way around, with the worse part on the bottom of the grip. I'm going to call CS in the morning and will let you all know how the conversation goes.
I had a set of grips that I bought a long time ago for an early-70's three-screw 4 5/8" Blackhawk which I still have. These grips are a much better fit on the SBH than the ones that came on it. Only problem is they're white mother of pearl and make the stainless SBH look sort of like a pimp's gun. Actually, it looks pretty good and I always wanted to be a "professional" man.
And I am contemplating the belt sander - pawing through the wood box I found a piece of figured east Indian rosewood that should make some fine grips for this baby.
