Well my sbh front sight fell off again today, it originally fell off when it was dropped and being a cheap skate I tried to JB Weld it as some others have said it worked for them. It did not work for me. I did everything right, roughed up the metal, clean it with acetone and used an appropriate amount of JB and clamped it tight for 24hrs. It just could hold up against the .44mag, they were not very hot rounds....
Seeing as I am going to need to bring it to a smith to have it re soldered I am thinking about a new sight. I know that somewhere I saw a blade blade style similar to a vaquero and that some were set up to be able to replace the blade. Anyone know where I can find one? It seems Bowen sells the Bowen sells the blade blanks but not the base....

That's is not the one I was think king of but definitely sweet. The price is good too. Is it installed using silver solder and the existing hole from the factory?

Yes it is soldered on. The hole from the factory is for the locator pin and I don't think the WC sight uses it. Of course you could drill the sight to use the pin, and it would make installation a lot better in my opinion.

By the way, did you use JB or JB Quik?

Yes, it makes sense that the locator pin would definitely help with installation of the sight.
I used JB Weld, not JB Quik. I tried it one more time today, just to see if maybe there was some user error on the first try....

I've done it for people and it held on a 44. But I may have got lucky

I modified a C clamp to hold it on after I applied the JB and I clamped it pretty darn tight. Probably tight enough that there wasn't much JB left under there now that I think about it.

Since you have the pin in the sight or the barrel and you have cleaned it, you can try soldering it on with some of the high strength solder from a hardware store like NAPA. It is on the racks with the welding supplies. It doesn't require enough heat to ruin the blue.

Yeah I used a c clamp and a pair of vice grips with padded jaws. Thanks for the idea with the solder but if the JB doesn't hold again, I'll buy the Weighand and have my smith solder it on, I'm not worried about the finish since its a rust blue I did myself and I can always re do it, besides it doesn't look that perfect anyway.
