Picked mine up at a gun show recently. I had not ever seen one, and really had stopped looking. I was going to hold out for a Les Baer.
I saw 4 at this show, and bought one of the two one dealer had on his table. Mostly due to its attractive appearance, and reviews I had read and seen on YouTube.
Anyway, I cleaned it up, worked the slide a few hundred times, and hit the range early Monday morning.
I took American Eagle, Federal Champion and CCI Blazer 230 grain FMJ, and several different typed of JHPs.
Here's how it went. I took down and cleaned the pistol after every 50 rounds of so.
Note 43 = 6 X 7 +1 22 = 3 X 7 +1
I have 6 magazines- 3 Wilson 7 rounders, and 3 Chip McCormack Power Mags converted to Wilsons with the springs and followers. I consider them to all be the same because of the Wilson parts in all.
The firing was a mix of through the chronograph, two-handed, one-handed, both weak and strong side.
Anyway here's how it went.
43 American Eagle 230 grain FMJs - perfect
43 CCI Blazer 230 grain FMJs - perfect
43 Federal Champion 230 grain FMJs - perfect
then on to the hollow points in no particular order
22 Federal HST 230 grain +P JHPs - perfect
22 Black Hills 230 grain +P JHPs (with the Hornady XTP bullet) - perfect
22 Winchester Personal Protection 230 grain JHPs - perfect
Winchester Ranger T 230 grain +P JHPs - 2 failures to feed, both in the same magazine full
22 Remington Golden Saber 185 grain JHPs - perfect
22 Remington Golden Saber 185 grain +P JHPs - perfect
except for the two FTFs with the Winchester Rangers, I was elated at the performance
I have read a couple other posts where SR1911 owners had FTF with the Winchester Ranger T 230 . It's too expensive to waste so I'll reserve those for my Beretta PX4 .45 that feeds anything I've tried.
Very happy with my new SR1911. I have made one minor modification. I noticed the thumb safety was almost too easy to wipe off for me. I removed it and filed a deeper groove in it where the plunger bears on it in the engaged position. I deepened the notch gradually until I was happy with the effort it took to snick the safety to the "off" position.
Right now, I'm carrying it with 7 +1 of the Winchester PP 230 grain JHPs, and two magazines of AE 230 grain FMJ.
I'm using the Winchester 230 JHPs because of their reliability in feeding for me in a Kimber Classic I own, which is finicky about feeding some JHPs.
I realize there are better loads but until I run more of the other 230 grain JHPs through it, and determine their reliability, I'll stick with this.
Very happy with it.
I will post chronograph results in a little while.
