Anyone have experience with shooting the SP101 in 9mm 2" barrel.
Are they worth the price because of being rare?

Pretty rare and the market has driven the price up. I had one and it was indeed a good gun, but is it worth a premium over a .357 or a .327, not unless it is to you.

Seems like a little much for a common firearm with and uncommon round. Are they rare? Sure. Does rare mean better? In this case...not really.
I leave 9mm to my semi auto's...I like something with more pepper to it in a revolver...the .357 is perfect for that frame in my opinion.
If you really want something "odd" yet effective, you should go with the .327 Fed SP101...

I have a Speed-Six in 9mm and I like it! Demand has driven the cost of these fine guns up. Both the Speed-Six & the SP-101 in 9mm.

I to love my Speed- six, she is a smooth shooter, wish Ruger never dropped them from the line up. I want a sp101 9mm but with todays prices I dont see that happening any time soon.

I own a 9mm SP101 short barrel and it along with my 2.75 inch barrel speed six in .357 are two revolvers that I would not part ways with. The 9mm SP is a blast to shoot with the moonclips, has plenty of power with plus p rounds, and is pretty cheap to practice with relative to the cost of most revolver ammo. If you reload, great. Otherwise the 9mm SP is an even better investment given the relatively lower cost of 9mm.

I bought one with the three inch barrel from a forum member and love it. I looked for one for a long time. It was worth it for me. Now for that elusive .22.
Much more zip than a .38 special...not the hand numbing recoil of the .357. 9mm is the best SP-101 ever made...(in my opinion). Caution..some of the older SP-101s are NOT zeroed too well, no matter what calibur they come in........8 inches left or right at 15 to 20 feet is not uncommon with these non adjustable site Rugers. I sent one .357 back to the factory and they had to install a new barrel and several other parts to bring it in to the center. The one above, however, is dead on....plus laser grips are adjustable, so this one never leaves the collection.

In my personal arsenal, I like to include guns that shoot easily obtained military and or LE type ammo. 9mm certainly fits this requirement.
So, spending an extra 150 bucks for a gun that you really like, and it shoots 9mm, is not off the wall, at all.
My vote would be, buy the SP in 9mm, and don't look back.

+1. I found mine to be dead on. I researched them a bit before I bought mine and found different reviews. I rolled the dice and got a good one. It had a Wolff main spring and I got a few ftf's but installed a Ruger spring and now it is 100% reliable. Did a little internal polishing and it is sweet. I'd buy another in a minute if I could fine it. Mine likes Golden saber and Federal Tactical 124+p+. I'll never sell it.

Here's one that has surfaced on a local (Pacific Northwest) forum.
Surprised it's remained unsold, but the folks on that particular forum do not understand the nuances of discontinued or otherwise rare Rugers. :wink:

WAYNO, I was tempted on that one, but bought a 45 Colt Redhawk instead. I think if that 9mm was on this site, it would have been long gone........
