Ruger single six conversion

Took my ruger single six to gander mountain to have them send it to ruger to have the safety conversion done on my old style ruger single six s/n 69547, ruger then contacted gander mountain saying they couldn't do the conversion on that gun and wanted to know if I wanted the gun back or send me a new gun. What to do! And why would they give me a new gun? Does my old gun have value?

I can't believe if they can't do the conversion that they would send the un updated gun back. Let us know how you make out. I would want it back.

Get it back. I got mine in '65. Never considered having the conversion done.

You need to talk directly to Ruger. I don't think they will send an unmodified gun back. This sounds sketchy. Somebody at gander wants your Single six.

I agree with both of these. I'd be awful skeptical about what that store is telling you. Especially since Ruger's website states outright that they still do the conversion.

And if Gander is charging you for this service Ruger would have shipped and picked up from your house for free.

Somebody at Gander wants an unaltered vintage Single Six. I've never considered having my first Ruger (this SS I bought new in 1959) ruined.... uh, converted:

Did your gun function correctly before you sent it?

Ruger will generally not work on a gun they feel will be unsafe. However, the conversion replaces all the action parts that wear and that could make the gun unsafe.

So what you've been told doesn't make a lot of sense.

I would also talk to Ruger directly. If they say the gun is worn beyond repair, state what I said above. And let us know what they tell you.

NOTE: When a gun is converted, Ruger will return the original parts UNLESS they are worn to the point of being unsafe in their opinion.

Same problem for me with my 1972 SBH. I spoke directly to Ruger about it. The person on the phone didn't have the details to explain why they couldn't repair it, but said they didn't have the parts.

I wanted a shooter-not a collectible. So I have a 5.5" Stainless SBH on order. As soon as it is made, it will be shipped to me as an exchange. No fees [except my dealer for DROS and receiving: :evil: ]

So, this doesn't sound fishy to me.

It sounds like they are running out of conversion kits, or that they ran out. And they are not explaining this to anyone before the gun is sent in.

Mine was sent in for a Bullet Gap of .011" and an endshake/endplay of .007", when Ruger says the SBH numbers should be a BG of less than .010" and endshake/endplay of less than .003".

It was spitting lead significantly also, whatever caused that.

I am sad at the loss, but I only had it 6 months and will have something that will accomplish my goals just as well.

Too bad I have all the OM trigger parts in a drawer and can't put them back in.

I've seen Ruger replace old flat top cylinders and barrels with new model parts. Still sounds fishy.

There's lotsa buyers for old super BH action parts.

VERY fishy - AFAIK, under their lawyers advise, I very much doubt that Ruger would ever return an unconverted Old Model (aka: "unsafe") to an owner.(Ruger would be liabel for any future injury after that)

I'm wondering if Gander actually sent the revolver to Ruger, or just claim they did.
