I'm fortunate enough to own a few Ruger single actions, but it wasn't until I shot my Blackhawk 357 this past weekend that I realized how different the resistance is on each one when turning or spinning the cylinder. My 10yr old SBH turns nicely, but doesn't spin easily. My Lipsey's flat top Bisley 44sp Blackhawk turns a little more quietly but not anymore freely. My Blackhawk 357 absolutely spins easily. Single Six Hunter turns less easily than the SBH, and my new Single Six 4 5/8" must be manually turned with some additional force.

They all shoot very well, so I don't have any accuracy or functionality complaints. Just seems odd how different each one is.

Can't say, except just differences in cylinder weight or designs. I would not "spin" a cylinder much, as that puts unnecessary wear on your pawl, cylinder, and base pin.

boils down to "clearances" (tolerances) what is riding on what, rubbing against what else, and if its dry or lubed....EVERY firearm may be different at any given time. The dirtier it gets, IN TIME, it too will start to drag, stiffen up and go slower, pull harder..................process of 'elimination' of the drag points (resistance) OR change your oil??
(Time , or 'age,' will also make things smoother & easier, maybe even "feel" lighter....)

When my revolvers are filthy from lots of shooting the cylinders are sometimes "quite tight"........

When clean and oiled ALL have easy to rotate cylinders EXCEPT the Freedom Arms Model 83's.
