I bought a new SBH Hunter yesterday, I've degreased the scope screws and was wondering if most shooters use loctite (blue) on the screws for added security. The base screws are on there pretty tight already.

3 different posters can give you 7 different opinions.... I use blue loctite on the bases, but nothing on the rings. YMMV

In my opinion, it's either blue loctite, or torquing the screws "mechanic-tight". I prefer to use the loctite.

I don't use loctite or any other methods to lock ring or mount screws. I would wager most of those types of screws get overtightened leading to stretched threads and boogered heads. I bought a torque wrench initially for stock screws and found out you can't really do it by feel, at least until you have some experience using a torque wrench so you have some idea of the force necessary. Kitchen drawer tool heads aren't a good idea either.

+1 to Sam. I use one too. It's hard to admit that before it, I was overtorquing every screw I ever drove on a gun. I also bought a set of gunsmithing bits from Brownells, and have not boogered a singe screw head since. Good investment.
