I just bought a 1984 RSI in .308. I really like the looks of the full wood stock. Has there ever been any trouble with all that wood making a connection with the barrel and causing accuracy trouble? Would bedding the rifle/stock help to avoid this trouble? Thanks in advance.

I don't know about other people's RSIs, but these are a couple of groups I shot with mine in 35 Rem. These are five shot groups from a rest with Hornady 200 gr. round-nose with a 1.5-4 Leupold scope.

I have heard of wood warping in different temps and affecting accuracy, actually my uncle said it happened on one of his rifles and he bedded it and fixed the issue. Don't remember what make he said the rifle was. I would definitely make sure that was the issue before I bedded the barrel. including different ammo in different temps and humidity from a solid rest

My .308 RSI groups 150gr. Remingtons and Winchesters at 1.25” at 100 yards consistently. I’m working up my own loads using 150gr. Hornady Interlock BTSP just to see if I can improve but I’ve always been satisfied with the commercial stuff. I also have some Hornady 165gr. bonded bulllets to play with after the 150’s.

My .250 is a great shooter with Barnes bullets (whatever the tipped all copper bullet is called).

I would shoot the gun BEFORE I even considered any modifications. Only by shooting it,, will you learn what it does.

Nice shooting. I'm hitting the range today and hope I can do the same with this "new-to-me" rifle. Other rifles I own have free-floated barrels for optimal accuracy. We'll see what this rifle can do with all that beautiful wood up front. I'm hoping it does well, it's such a gorgeous rifle.

Been a Ruger guy since 1989 or so and this year bought my first international! Lipseys stainless/walnut hawkeye in 22/250.
Was skeptical about pressure points on that full wood stock. Turns out mine was free floated from the front sight base all the way to the rear sight. It shot so well with the irons I didnt bother to scope it! Super handy/fun and accurate rifle. A keeper! By the way mine has a fast twist 1 in 8 and was using 64 grainers. Ron

I've had one of these in .30-06 for 10 years or so - bought one in .243 for my wife for Christmas a while back. With factory ammunition both shoot 1 1/2" groups.

Which range do you shoot at? I'm close to the Monmouth Fish and Game.
I have a few places that I go to out in the woods...gravel pits and such. My tailgate works as a bench for the "Lead Sled" rest with a few sandbags.

Nice! Lipseys seems to carry some great guns.

I have a 1982 .308 Model 77RSI. I’ve never really tried to fire it for extreme accuracy but it is hunting accurate for sure. It was a first anniversary gift from my wife. I shot my first buck with it.

* A word of caution (from experience) keep an eye on front sling attachment. On mine the Chicago screw came out on the Cobra sling. While hunting, I had leaned it against a tree. When I picked it up by the sling the front detached and the rifle fell onto a rock wall.

Thanks for the kind welcome. I don't use a sling until I'm dragging a deer. Thanks for the tip, though. I'll keep an eye on it.

Got the new-to-me RSI out to the range yesterday and find this rifle is my new favorite shooter. I took a few shots at 25 yards to get the scope on and put two shots through the same hole! Not as great at 100 yards, but perfect for hunting. I need to shoot it more off the bench for sure. Racking the bolt and seating a fresh round is so smooth and quite...something about this rifle just feels so right for me. I have completely fallen in love with this beautiful rifle...head over heels.
