Probably someone was referring to the cylinder scratch line that forms a ring around new model Ruger single action revolver cylinders because the cylinder latch drops so early. It also occurs on old models if mishandled by not going to hammer full cock after having it at the loading cock.

As far as I know, the cylinder ringing happens on all double action revolver designs.

You're over-thinking it... there is no such thing as "the Ruger ring"... it's just the cylinder drag-line on a revolver. :wink:

Yes, 'Ruger Ring' is the drag line around the cylinder on a Ruger New Model single action revolver. The way they are set up, the bolt rises early and contacts the cylinder before it pops into its locking notch. This is normal on a Ruger New Model single action revolver. It is not normal on a single action revolver with a Colt style lockwork. The presence of a ring around the cylinder on a Colt indicates that somebody did not know the proper way to operate it.

Most DA revolvers will exhibit a drag mark on their cylinders after a bit of use. Over the years, that has become expected/accpectable as it is quite normal.
Up untill the NM Ruger SA revlovers came out, most SA's did not exhibit such drag marks...unless they were previously mishandled or were in need of repair. That being the case way back when the NM Ruger was first introduced, the drag marks on it's cylinder quickly became know as the "Ruger ring".....which will forever distinguish them models as being the first SA revolvers that was built in a manner that purposely allowed drag marks not common to other brands of SA revolvers or to Ruger's earlier models. So in Ruger-speak, the term "Ruger ring" is reserved for drag marks on a NM SA cylinder only. Simular drag marks on a early model Ruger cylinder is simply call a "ring".

Nah! "Ruger ring" is what your ears get after shooting a few thousand rounds without wearing any hearing protection. Believe me, I've had it for a long time.
