ruger redhawk cylinder swap

This may have been asked before, but will a .44mag cylinder fit in the .45 colt? I have a project in mind that requires this type of swap but don't want to waste the time, or money, if they won't interchange. I realize that this would be done by a smith.

Physically, they should be the same dimension. It should be fitted by a gunsmith to verify timing, headspace, endshake and b/c gap. I see you are planning on doing that.
 
Thanks for the reply. I thought that the outside dimensions would be pretty much the same but wasn't really sure. Would sure make sense though. :)
 
Yes, a number of people swap in cylinders from .45/.454 Casull Super Redhawks, too. If one knew where to get the barrel rebored and had a .480 Ruger cylinder laying around one could do that, too. Hmm, .480 Redhawk, that sounds interesting.
