Just curious because I have heard different things.

If I send a pistol back to Ruger to re-blue the slide, will they also re etch the logo's, model #, etc, etc....
on the slide ?

Just wondering if this is normal practice or not, during the re-blue process Ruger has in place.

Thanks in advance

Anything Ruger refinishes will leave the factory looking like the gun did when new. Within reason of course. They might no get any imperfections like corrosion pitting all the way out. But they do all the same steps to a refinish as a new gun.

Thank you Mike.

So you believe the would re-polish and re-etch the lettering and logo, etc, on all re-blued slides?

I would believe so. No way to get a good blue job without polishing down to bare metal. Slides are not etched that deep. Would think polishing would remove a noticeable amount.

thank you again Mike, I just wanted to know one way or another, as I could not get a straight answer from Ruger CS (they said no), the Tech said yes, and my friends said no.....lol, and another person I know said yes.

I also posted here....under gunsmithing, for the entire story of why I am asking.

Hi,

They did a lot of bluing in our shop when I worked for my old gunsmith boss. Polishing was a fine art when it came to preserving original markings on various parts. Some of our "good" polishers could get everything clean w/o even apparently touching the markings, while the not so good ones could work on one end of a barrel and cause some wear to the markings on the other end!

My brother in law sent a Bisley back to Ruger for refinishing, and it came back "like new." W/ the same "less than perfect" polish on the barrel! I kinda wondered if they did a chemical etch instead of the kind of mechanical polishing I was used to seeing (naval jelly will take off bluing rather quickly--since it's an acid, remember to neutralize it when you're done if you try it at home!).

So how they do it I don't know, but I do know the gun will look like it did when it left the factory most times...

Thank you for your post Rick. I am not sure of the correct process either. Can't get a straight story one way or the other, but the markings are def. not in the same location as before. I got the gun back for the 2nd time and it seems more "care" was put into the re-assembly as well as new slide stop and left safety don't look like they are used parts lol
